Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

Sometimes, UFOs land.

That dog? A UFO that's not flying at the moment. When the dog sits, the aliens are getting back onboard.

Some UFOs can morph into different shapes as camouflage.

That lake? Yep, it's a UFO.

One of my favorite pasttimes is checking the UFO sub and watching them all agree that "this is it" for the 185,495th time.

I went a few times a couple years back when the propaganda and information warfare was really heating up... Are the users still going full force that it's really really real and it's juuuuust about to bust loose?

everything that goes up must go down in history as an ufo

Not anything. No one could confuse a lake or the Whitehouse or a stick of spaghetti as a UFO. It needs to be flying first and foremost.

Pretty sure at least one lake could be mistaken for a UFO

There used to be a lake right over there. Ducks would eat in it, children would swim in it, it was a great lake. One day these ducks were in the pond, and the temperature dropped so fast, that the lake just froze right up. The ducks didn’t die, they flew away and took that whole lake right with them. To this day I hear that lake is somewhere over in Georgia.

Reminds me of the birds lifting a whale in the sky when Twitter was struggling back in the day.

Lights reflecting on water are often a source of mistaken UFO sightings.

If you throw a stick of spaghetti fast enough, people can’t identify it.

Are we not all on a giant ball that's flying through space?

[–] im_fine_sandy@nord.pub 5 points 2 weeks ago

I think that's part of the point of the term.

Instead of saying you saw "an alien", you merely saw something you couldn't identify.

Heck my coffee mug almost turned into an UFO this morning, luckily it all ended in a small splatter.

[–] kryptonianCodeMonkey@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

pokes dead possum

"Goddamn UFO. Stinkin up my lawn."

[–] ChaoticNeutralCzech@feddit.org 2 points 2 weeks ago

Yeet it to make it flying. Yes, it's a dumb idea, as mentioned in the post

[–] biofaust@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Outside of the US, most of us know this. We are just nicer people.

Nothing is an UFO if you're knowledgeable enough.
