For those unfamiliar with the brand:

Cheba Hut started in Arizona but currently has its headquarters in Fort Collins, Colorado, a state known for its friendly cannabis laws. The restaurant is known for embracing cannabis culture and has sandwiches named after weed strains.

They even refer to their beverages as “cottonmouth cures.”

Here is their menu: https://www.chebahut.com/menu

For the further unfamiliar, ‘cheba’ is 80s slang for pot.

[–] PwnTra1n@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

Love cheba hut. Been a while since I’ve been to the OG location but they even added a small bar in it last I’d been. they really have spread so much since I started going there with my dad years ago.

[–] KingGordon@lemmy.world 31 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Their scottsdale store has one of the best murals ive seen

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 9 points 2 weeks ago

Wow… it’s glorious. There’s even a Thomas the Toke Engine in there!

[–] Anchorxiety@reddthat.com 14 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

"toasted" subs

Suspicious quotation marks

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

They are known for embracing the cannabis culture for sure…

[–] arctanthrope@lemmy.world 19 points 2 weeks ago

I mean it's literally called cheba hut. it's like working at a place called Mary Jane's "Baked" Goods and wondering why there's so many stoners around

[–] rockSlayer@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I remember when cheba uptown first opened in Minneapolis, I thought they were selling subs with THC in them somehow. My disappointment was immeasurable

Same. I ordered a Cap’n Crunch bar and remained painfully sober.

[–] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works -3 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Yeah, that would make more sense. I don't understand the allure of having your sandwich assembled by someone who is pretty much guaranteed to be high. It's like ok, bread, mayo, meat, stare into space for a couple of seconds, or was it twenty minutes? This sandwich would probably be better with a fork on it.

[–] lps2@lemmy.ml 7 points 2 weeks ago

Their staff are always super friendly and at least the few times I been, made pretty dank sandwiches so 🤷‍♀️

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago

WTF are you smoking to make you lose track of time like that? Are you sure it’s pot and not, like, salvia?

[–] Texas_Hangover@lemmy.radio 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I've made some ridiculously good sandwiches while high.

There may some bias involved though.

[–] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 weeks ago

Toasted subs. When you hotbox the gimp suit.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Their sandwiches are pretty good, too

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Absolutely delicious, IMO.

[–] TimboSlice@discuss.online 4 points 2 weeks ago

Oh man I used to love Cheba Hut when I lived in Tucson, thanks for the memories!

[–] Banana@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (3 children)

are toasted switches something there is a market for?

rips bong

[–] _stranger_@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Quiznos dropped the ball, someone had to pick it up

[–] JeanValjean@piefed.social 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

But do they have a pepper bar?

[–] wjrii@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

I know the guys sold out, technically, but man they had to be laughing their asses off at the very idea that somebody paid good money to redo the spongemonkeys for a sandwich commercial.

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

If being alive for 43 years taught me anything… there is a market for just about everything.

[–] Gerudo@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Absolutely, have you never had one? A warm sandwich with warm toasty bread is awesome.

[–] Banana@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago

OH y'all were talkin about sub sandwiches

...I see now

[–] scops@reddthat.com 3 points 2 weeks ago

They better be quick to update that sign when the billboard updates. Otherwise it's gonna raise some... questions

[–] sunsofold@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 weeks ago

Borrow? You planning to give it back?

[–] Ceruleum@lemmy.wtf 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Their pee has a lot of poop in it.

Let's start a club!

[–] Gammelfisch@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

It's been over a decade since I consumed chicken.

I think I may have spotted a clue to why American eggs are banned in Europe.

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (3 children)

As far as I know, it’s because American eggs are required to be washed and sterilized whereas European eggs are the exact opposite, they are left unwashed. Both are perfectly fine, ~~you just need to know to wash them before eating them in Europe.~~ apparently you don’t need to wash them in Europe, just don’t eat the shell 🍳

[–] Dreamcatcher@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Washing breaks the natural anti-bacterial barrier of eggs, leaving them prone to salmonella, and they have to be refrigerated to avoid contamination.

I have no idea why they do this.

[–] chicken@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Because otherwise they have bits of poop on them

[–] Dreamcatcher@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

We Europeans don't eat the shell.

[–] chicken@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 weeks ago

Well I'm not saying it's the correct way, just, that's why they wash them despite the drawbacks.

I'm pretty sure it's so that they look better.

[–] timochka@lemmy.zip 0 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Because washing the eggs allows you to cover up the fact that the hens are crammed so tight that the eggs are covered in shit by the time they're collected.

Making it illegal to wash the eggs forces farmers to maintain some semblance of sanitary conditions.

[–] Dreamcatcher@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

They're often crammed very tight in Europe as well, but it depends on the type of egg you buy.

Having a tiny bit of shit on it is uncommon, and people understand that it's going to happen sometimes with a natural product that comes out of a chicken's ass.

[–] timochka@lemmy.zip 0 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Battery cages are illegal in the EU, and the minimum provision for caged hens is 750cm^2 per bird.

The US has no such law, but "industry standard" is 430 to 550cm^2 per bird.

[–] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 3 points 2 weeks ago

That and they don’t bother to vaccinate chickens so eggs can’t be eaten raw.

[–] brotundspiele@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

You don't need to wash European eggs before eating them. Unless you're planning to eat the shell.

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Good to know! I’ll edit my comment to reflect this.

[–] adarza@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 weeks ago

the billboard is probably referring to growth hormones. some other companies do the same claim in their marketing.. but growth hormones have been banned in that industry in the u.s. since like the 1950s.
