As far as I know, it’s because American eggs are required to be washed and sterilized whereas European eggs are the exact opposite, they are left unwashed. Both are perfectly fine, ~~you just need to know to wash them before eating them in Europe.~~ apparently you don’t need to wash them in Europe, just don’t eat the shell 🍳
Washing breaks the natural anti-bacterial barrier of eggs, leaving them prone to salmonella, and they have to be refrigerated to avoid contamination.
I have no idea why they do this.
Because otherwise they have bits of poop on them
We Europeans don't eat the shell.
Well I'm not saying it's the correct way, just, that's why they wash them despite the drawbacks.
I'm pretty sure it's so that they look better.
They're often crammed very tight in Europe as well, but it depends on the type of egg you buy.
Having a tiny bit of shit on it is uncommon, and people understand that it's going to happen sometimes with a natural product that comes out of a chicken's ass.
That and they don’t bother to vaccinate chickens so eggs can’t be eaten raw.
You don't need to wash European eggs before eating them. Unless you're planning to eat the shell.
Good to know! I’ll edit my comment to reflect this.
