Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

TSA is removing chairs from ‌checkpoints, said the American Federation of Government Employees TSA Council 100, which represents workers and criticized the move as a “disregard for workers' rights and safety" and added the chairs "serve as basic ergonomic and safety support for officers that stand and walk on hard surfaces all day."

TSA confirmed the decision, saying: "This welcome change reinforces both our security posture and our commitment to hospitality by having these officers on their feet and alert. All officers must meet fitness for duty requirements to be capable of performing their vital national security function."

TSA Agents are miserable enough as is. Let's make their feet hurt too, that'll improve the experience for everyone

Grocery clerks aren’t allowed to sit down in the US, either. It’s stupid.

What a nice European cultural import.

Good guy Germany

[–] zoltanshields@lemmy.zip 6 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I wish I could somehow convey to whoever is collecting data on me that this is a thing I like.

Like there's all these entities trying to collect data on me to figure out how to sell me stuff and I want them to know the fact that Aldi lets cashiers sit down positively influences my decision to shop there. If other grocery stores adopted this I would prefer them over stores that do not.

Pretty sure the point is to harm national security. After a false flag attack, everyone will be ready to go to war with whatever country they say caused it which just happens to also have oil/gems/opiates/whatever.

[–] Brkdncr@lemmy.world 12 points 5 days ago (1 children)

That’s not mandated by the government though.

[–] trailee@sh.itjust.works 23 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Grocery executives believe that US consumers see sitting as lazy and standing as diligently working. Whether or not a sufficient percentage of consumers actually hold the belief should be irrelevant, but it’s a cultural norm (even though it’s objectively worse). The government is functioning as an employer in this case, and is somewhat equivalently failing its employees for the sake of perception by the public. The more important government failing to be angry about is that sitting isn’t protected by OSHA, and the bigger societal failing is that capitalism has suppressed unions to the point that they can’t effectively even win this as a reasonable concession.

[–] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

They stand in markets in Japan too. I wonder how many countries allow sitting vs standing.

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago

If I owned the markets I'd let you all sit. The customers can sit too if they want. Ample chairs all around

[–] Mantzy81@aussie.zone 59 points 5 days ago

In the US, the cruelty often found in menial jobs seems to be part of the point.

[–] protist@retrofed.com 33 points 5 days ago (1 children)

The people who do the ID checks literally have no reason to stand. They're sitting on the other side of a kiosk and checking your ID. All the physical security checks are done by other people after that

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Yeah but how else can the "leadership" show that they are in control. If you have time to sit you have time to quit lol

[–] protist@retrofed.com 1 points 5 days ago

Well all the people who are about to quit are going to make the holiday travel season an amazing experience

[–] marx@piefed.social 38 points 5 days ago (1 children)

it’s a start but I know I won’t really feel safe until they all get mandatory testosterone boosters

[–] WhoIzDisIz@lemmy.today 14 points 5 days ago (1 children)

May as well hold out for the ICE-style ski masks & electric shock gloves, too.

Sir, is that a nail clipper with a file...?

That 3-pack counts as 3 items, bringing your item count to 12. You are now detained until the next express-lane court date three years from now.

The century-long project to divide the working class is still succeeding.

[–] NaibofTabr@infosec.pub 18 points 5 days ago

Oh man I hope there's a dozen ADA lawsuits incoming.

[–] JigglySackles@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

This kind of shit is how you can tell a boomer is running it. Stupid outdated cruel decisions. I hate TSA as an institution, but a lot of people employed there are just trying to get by, same as the rest of us.

[–] Bebopalouie@lemmy.ca 8 points 5 days ago

Removing every bit of humanity, one step at a time. The us is a dark place and it’s getting darker every day.

[–] winkerjadams@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 5 days ago (1 children)

They already have chairs, they are going to take them away and probably throw them in a dumpster

[–] shartgargle@lemmy.zip 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Nah, it's the government. They'll pay for a warehouse to store them and a security company to guard the warehouse.

[–] glitch1985@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

The excess property process is a bitch.

[–] shartgargle@lemmy.zip 2 points 5 days ago

It didn't use to be. That's how army surplus stores became a thing, and then how it suddenly wasn't a thing anymore.

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 12 points 5 days ago

Man and they finally stopped being such dicks the past few years.

[–] hamFoilHat@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

It is unprofessional for them to stand on two feet at the same time. Instead they should have to stand on one foot at all times. They should be forced to wear sensors in their shoes and be penalized if they spend more than 30 seconds in an 8 hour day with both feet on the ground. I think this would promote readiness and show a more professional appearance.

[–] Brkdncr@lemmy.world 10 points 5 days ago

As someone with minor foot issues that make standing for any length of time painful, I can’t wait for TSA to be understaffed.

"Nine times out of ten it's an electric razor, but every once in a while... it's a dildo. Of course, it's company policy never to imply ownership in the event of a dildo. We have to use the indefinite article, 'a dildo', never... your dildo."
