Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

MODERATORS

They’re now claiming that trans women “stole” over 2000 gold medals from cis women. But if you look closer, that number should be much… higher?

[…]

CWALAC doesn’t say those 2,293 gold medals were won in any specific time period, just that they were won at some point. But entries on the dataset go back as far as 1927 (doing a lovely job of emphasizing something we always say: trans people have always been here). If anything, with such a huge dataset, if trans people were dominating sports, you’d expect significantly more wins from trans people.

Even the notion of what they are considering a sport where trans women would have an advantage seems undefined. While there are major sports like swimming, soccer, and hockey, other sports included where trans people are supposedly dominating are bowling, disc golf, Irish dance, and competitive oyster shucking. This is all separate from their non-athletic section, which includes prom queens, best actress nominations, and Jeopardy! performances.

This is how you know the people who actually believe this shit have no struggle or anything going on in their life because they obsess over lies that don’t even directly affect their own lives

No you see a trans person winning the 1927 Oyster Shucking contest is proof of the trans agenda ruining this country and destroying America.

Every trans person i have ever met just wants to be invisible, normal & boring...just like everyone else. If we just let them be themselves, they would fade into the woodwork just like all of us, and nobody would be the worse for it.

They literally don't affect anything, unless we make it into something.

Anyone against trans people is the most easily manipulated, fucking religious psychosis having, fucking cuck to billionaire pedophiles alive.

Jeopardy? Don't the men and women compete together in Jeopardy? Is there, like, a Women's Jeopardy?

[–] ByteJunk@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

That's also what jumped out at me.

It's like chess, I think - a women's category only makes sense because of the long standing societal and historical barriers to women's participation.

As we move on to a world where players aren't discriminated against based on gender, the split no longer makes sense.

Our obsession with sports has always kind of flummoxed me. Don't get me wrong, I love sports. Baseball, hockey, and basketball are in my Midwestern blood. But freaking out over the competitive sanctity of high school basketball or college swimming is just... like, dude. Maybe these things mean too much if that much is on the line. It is only a game, y u have to be mad?

Of course it's not about the sports, it was never about the sports, its about finding a scapegoat that doesn't have the political power to fight back. Innocent people who just want to exist. But ah, no, we need penis detectors and hormone checks and we need to invade the privacy of children to... save the children from... other... children

I know I'm not exactly steelmanning the transphobes here but do you think it ever occurs to any of them how fucking stupid they sound

Ah, yeah, I think there was a segment about this with John Oliver. Basically the online tracker claiming trans athlete stole medals took unvetted submissions leading to false claims and duplicates.
