This is old school Twitter where a bad take is countered by a worse one you never thought possible

How can you say, even as the most ultra of ultras, that the DPRK is capitalist... Like what??

[–] T34MediumTank@lemmygrad.ml 26 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Small parts of the Cuban economy and the DPRK economy operate under markets, especially so since the fall of the soviet Union. This part is much larger in Cuba since the sanctions.

If you ask an Ultra, even the smallest exchange of goods or services not conducted under the barter system is an infraction on socialist ideals and therefore makes you a capitalist.

The kid selling lemonade at a lemonade stand in their frontyard is bourgeoisie.

the barter system

The fuck? Do Ultras even believe this? I thought ultras were more like utopian that socialism does not exist without a fully planned economy or some shit?

I don't pay them much mind.

Some of them do, kinda just a broad label for anyone who's so invested in idealism that they refuse to collaborate with anyone or take practical action.

So it's less specifically what economic system do they believe in and more so how dogmatic and idealistic they are. I'm sure some ultras believe in exclusive use of barter or smth like that.

That's wild, they should read Graeber's Debt: The First 5000 years. Barter systems almost exclusively emerge from the collapse of other economic systems.

Are they a perfect Gonzalite utopia where they gather around the communal candle each evening to read the selected works of Mao while enjoying their half a cup of rice ration (no toppings for that would be bourgeoisie decadence)? If not, then they're clearly revisionist.

i saw a video on ultra.tube where chinese tourists went to pyongyang and there was a shop selling souvenirs to tourists marx-angry and the tour guide had a arirang brand smartphone marx-angry that he claimed he bought marx-angry using his salary marx-angry

Chinese tourist SHOCKS DPRK tour guide by speaking in perfect revisionist!

korea capitalist Q.E.D.

[–] DoofusAscendant@hexbear.net 16 points 6 days ago

You just spelled DPRK with capital letters, QED.

History's only true anti-capitalist was, in fact, ee cummings.

Yeah they are both being silly 🪿

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 21 points 6 days ago

Oh? You’re a lapdog for capitalism? Who told you to do that? The US government?!

joker-dancing

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 15 points 6 days ago

Oh ok, all countries are capitalist and will always return to capitalism sooner or later. I guess that means socialism doesn't work and we shouldn't try it, and is usually what CHUDs using this argument insist is the outcome, which does follow logically from their argument.

But when ultras make this argument it is one of the strangest arguments I can think of "Yeah, my idea is extremely unpopular and has always failed every time it has been tried, which proves how good it is." smuglord

[–] the_robot_from_planet_danger@hexbear.net 13 points 6 days ago (3 children)

What is the top one trying to say? Is there an "every existing state is already socialist" ideology I haven't heard about?

[–] Kefla@hexbear.net 20 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Ancaps unironically believe that the existence of governments invalidates capitalism, and that real capitalism is when you live in the Coca-Cola Country

Real capitalism has never been tried

[–] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 16 points 5 days ago

Real capitalism has never been tried before

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 12 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Most likely an ancap understanding of "socialism is when the government does stuff" and every government does stuff, therefore every government is socialist.
