Gunna' point out all the people who are now like "it's stupid to go to a bar and drink if you're immunocomprimised, even if you need to socialize" were literally making the exact opposite argument 2-3 years ago about how restrictions needed to be lifted, masking needs to be optional, etc. or else they'd go crazy themselves. Disabled people need to be on their best behaviour at all times or else they're undeserving of concern, "healthy people" get to do whatever they want.

Welcome to c/disabled, an anticapitalist community for disabled people/people with disability(s).
What is disability justice? Disability justice is a framework of activism which centers disabled people of multiple intersections. Before participating in in this community, please read the Ten Principles of Disability Justice.
Do I count as disabled/a person with disability(s)? "Disability" is an umbrella term which encompasses physical disabilities, emotional/psychiatric disabilities, neurodivergence, intellectual/developmental disabilities, sensory disabilities, invisible disabilities, and more. You do not have to have an official diagnosis to consider yourself disabled.
Follow the Rules:
- This comm is open to everyone. However, the megathread is only open to people who self-identify as disabled/a person with disability(s). We center the experiences of disabled people here, and if you are abled we ask that you please respect that.
- Follow the principles of disability justice, as outlined in the link above.
- Zero tolerance for ableism. That includes lateral ableism. Ableism will result in a ban.
- No COVID minimization.
- Do not offer unsoliticed health advice. We do not want to hear about the wonders of exercise or meditation, thank you very much. Additionally, do not moralize health or "healthy choices".
- If posting an image, please write an image description for our blind/low vision comrades. (If doing this is inaccessible to you, DM one of the mods and we will help.)
- Please CW and spoiler tag discussions of ableism.
- When it comes to identify-first vs person-first language, respect the language that people choose for themselves. If someone wants to be referred to as a disabled person, respect that. If someone wants to be referred to as a person with a disability, respect that.
- Try to avoid using ableist language. It is always good to be mindful of the way language has been used to oppress and harm people.

i have consistently been of the opinion that it's stupid for anyone to go be in a room full of plague rats regardless of immune condition 
Not to mention that people who assume everybody will drink alcohol there have never been to a lesbian bar, or at least not since the 1990s.
i'm no barfly but going to a bar to not drink sounds more miserable than usual being in public
The whole point of queer bars is that they aren't the usual "being in public" experience. I basically never drink when i go out. Just don't care much about it anymore and most of my friends don't, either.
I'm shocked there are any lesbian bars still around... I thought they'd all died in the 2000s.

Gentrification definitely did a number on them, but they do exist. I mean, most aren't expressly lesbian bars, but they're not the type of bar that caters to gay men and not the type of bar that attracts a mostly straight audience, either.
I watched some of the video, but it was too long for me to get through. All this makes me incredibly sad. There is too little kindness and understanding and it leads to this. Hate, then discourse, then discourse on the discourse, etc etc. While a woman is stuck with a failing business she didn't want and tons of debt, and a community is failed because of an ill-advised attempt to keep the business running. All anyone has done has embittered themselves to others on "the left" and zero solutions have been suggested to help the people effected. I think the article hasan read said they were going to make it a co-op, so that should be good at least.
Wait wtf this is what I keep hearing about "Massachusetts Lesbian Bar"? I saw some things on Tumblr but, you know it's Tumblr so I wasn't going near that discourse with a 10 ft pole.
Like, fucking hell, I will admit i've been a little bad at masking when I have gone out (Though I don't go out much and i'm normally not in a venue that could get me exposed, given my hatred of crowds), but return to masking cause it's obvious how bad this year is and that's after I got my vaccinations. If I showed up somewhere that said they demand masks I'd honestly be happier for it.
The bar in question had a mask mandate, then started doing "mask-optional" nights. Understandably, this pissed off their regular clientele, who were still taking COVID seriously. The bar is having financial issues and is attempting to make more money, but will now likely make less.
IMO, the story is being pushed in major media because it's a good way to punch left by painting people taking reasonable precautions as "those loonie lefties". "Don't they realize that it's impossible to run a business while asking patrons to mask? COVID is over!" One of the articles I read was dripping with venom for stuff like having therapists present at a meeting to discuss the situation.
My example of disabled people being football keeps getting proved correct, we are football used by one side to score over other. We need each other more than ever and only we can save ourselves in situation of death camps, none of these "communists" are gonna save us, we'll be the sacrifice, the mud soil, they use to make their utopia, we'll be the child of Omelas if we don't resist.
at our lgbt community we just make sure people have vax papers and if they dont / cant afford it we offer to pay it out, the doctor we use is a short walk away and has a deal with us. its not that much overhead and is the bare minimum i think 
we also give out condoms and prep and have a lot of free masks laying around. we arent really a bar tho, it is interesting that a bar tried to be more of a community space than just a cruising space though
