Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), who is currently running for governor of Alabama, went on a 20-minute, lie-filled rant on the Senate floor accusing trans people of being violent and “deranged” and proposing that the United States bring back mental institutions to house them.

Tuberville claimed there is a “rise in violence coming from people who the left refers to as transgender.”

I would feel much safer being flown by a pansexual transgender catgirl than by a MAGAt.

[–] sin_free_for_00_days@sopuli.xyz 53 points 3 weeks ago (4 children)

I know, freedom of speech and whatnot, but it's amazing what these ass-backward morons will spout as fact, and worse, use to justify their horrendous policies. Seems like they should at least have to attend some basic "facts of reality" class before returning to work. At a minimum.

[–] Akasazh@lemmy.world 27 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Or, you know, a functioning media apparatus that would do it's job and keep the ruling class in check.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 17 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

That only works when the media isn't consolidated and owned by said ruling class.

I think we don't give enough consideration to just how comprehensively failure to enforce antitrust law has destroyed our entire society.

[–] 4am@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 weeks ago

Unleash Lina Khan!

[–] Asafum@lemmy.world 9 points 3 weeks ago

The thing is, for most of them, they know they're spouting bullshit. The classes on "facts of reality" wouldn't help. It's all just the easy target bullshit they know the base eats up that can get them elected without having to do anything that would help people. It's a lot easier to get elected on the right with policies of "I promise to hurt these people!" As opposed to "I'll do something about your financial problems!"

[–] 4am@lemmy.zip 7 points 3 weeks ago

They’re flailing now, they’re trying to instill fear with the most over the top lies they can.

They know they’re about to be wiped off the map in the midterms and possibly even prosecuted.

[–] RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world 0 points 3 weeks ago

This doesn't fall under the definition of Free Speech.

[–] hoppeduponcoffee@lemmy.zip 40 points 3 weeks ago

We need to start promoting and supporting trans and drag queen baby sitters. Because I know my kids will be safe, unlike leaving them with one of these churchy, sexually repressed, authoritarian assholes.

[–] Avicenna@programming.dev 37 points 3 weeks ago

"Tuberville claimed, however, that affirming parents are guilty of “child abuse.” "

Wouldn't be suprised if they find child porn in his computer in the next year or so.

[–] JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip 27 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Where do these idiots get this shit? Is there just a room of guys at the Heritage Foundation sitting around seeing who can make people believe the dumbest thing?

[–] peopleproblems@lemmy.world 23 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Nothing they do isn't intentional.

'Furries' are a bit weird, so its an easy target. There's apparently a disproportionate amount of pilot furries. Pilots affect a lot of people. Since furries are weird, they are an outgroup. The outgroup they are targeting is transgender. Saying the transgender group is both weird and threatening gets people's attention weather or not its true.

They don't intend to make anyone believe anything, other than the transgender outgroup is bad.

[–] halloween_spookster@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

They focus on "othering" so anyone that isn't "normal" is their target. Furries and transgender people (not to be confused with each other) are relatively rare and "weird" to a lot of people so they are particularly easy targets.

[–] rottenmummy@lemmy.ml 19 points 3 weeks ago

If the furry trans alien Eldrich entities are going to safely take off and land, I am not sure what the problem is?

[–] AllNewTypeFace@leminal.space 18 points 3 weeks ago

Has he explained how they manage to keep a litter tray in the cockpit despite turbulence?

[–] EonNShadow@pawb.social 17 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

$10 says his Internet history has lots of e621 on it

[–] Forester@pawb.social 7 points 3 weeks ago

$10 says it's pornhub animation section. I highly doubt this guy can manage to type order:favcount

[–] Zier@fedia.io 12 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

We do need mental institutions, a lot of them, so we have a place to house the GOP. And they should be run by trans furries, just to drive those conservatives crazy.

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I mean I've never seen a pilot dressed as a furry, so this guy may already just be seeing things. So a normal guard may just look like a furry to him.

[–] Zier@fedia.io 1 points 3 weeks ago

Maybe the guard just has a very bushy beard & hairstyle.

[–] AceFuzzLord@lemmy.zip 11 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Projector jokes aside, who cares if trans furries fly plains? The whole entire internet would probably implode and disappear without them. Their backs must be broken beyond repair with how much they carry the web.

[–] runner_g@piefed.blahaj.zone 9 points 3 weeks ago

Maybe the speed running community is over representative of trans folks, but I would feel quite safe in their hands. Those guys, gals, and nonbinary pals have crazy control of their manual dexterity.

[–] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Meh, Fury airlines couldn't be worse than Spirit.

[–] lividweasel@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Fury Airlines sounds like it has exclusively pilots with anger management issues, so it might actually be worse than Spirit.

[–] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 weeks ago

I feel like you haven't flown on Spirit Airlines.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Hey now it could call back to the root of the word and is in fact piloted by the Furies of ancient Hellenic myth. Honest probably better than Zeus or Pan airlines, you'll get off the plaen pregnant and given the proclivities of Pan possible a woman if you weren't one before.

[–] Feathercrown@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Pan out here running the real trans airline

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago

You will probably still end up pregnant, also frankly speaking being related to any Olympian nonsense is usually bad.

[–] anon_8675309@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago

This guy is a hate filled dumbass.

[–] empireOfLove2@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 3 weeks ago

I didn't want to know exactly what kind of porn this guy gets off to, but I guess I know now.

It's his way of revealing that when he's not being an anti-American piece of shit bigot at work, he spends his time sitting around in a feather-suit (but still being an anti-American piece of shit bigot).

[–] Burn_The_Right@lemmy.today 7 points 3 weeks ago

Conservatives will always look for ways to oppress as many of the normal people as possible. This is because all conservatives have a deep, instinctive need to harm others.

When conservatives have power, they will always use that power to oppress the normal people. Always. Throughout all recorded human history, the conservatives of every civilization have been the source of every act of oppression ever commited.

Tuberville's comments are comical, but the absurdity comes from genuine, pure evil. We rationalize that evil by calling it conservatism. But that's all conservatism is. It's just evil by every definition of the word.

[–] coreray00@discuss.online 6 points 3 weeks ago

Didn’t they start using ai for air traffic control yesterday?

[–] wheezy@lemmy.ml 6 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

They must have accidentally targeted Hearts of Iron IV gamers with the recruitment ads. They did this to themselves. A mistake in their eyes; but I'll take a Hearts of Iron themperor over a CoD Nazi anyday of the week.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Hey, check it out! Dummy Dummerville has a boner for Furries! I wonder what his favorite is.

[–] runner_g@piefed.blahaj.zone 9 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Tuberville out here trying to get this number to 6 figs

six figs.

[–] Danarchy@lemmy.nz 4 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah well it sounds like those ducks are sitting in the pilots seat now you manky bitch

[–] PostingInPublic@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

Pilots? Bullshit, everybody knows furries run the autonomous systems!

[–] joella@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 3 weeks ago

I expect he spent a lot of time walking around barefoot down there in Blabalama. Enjoy those hookworms, boy.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

Neverending war in a Middle Eastern country with seemingly no end in sight. People up in arms over AI and data centers. People upset about sky-high gas and diesel prices (as we prep for winter months). People angry about not enough housing, unsafe food supplies, and everything costing so much more than just a year ago. People upset about billionaires calling the shots in a democracy. People upset about having people tackled and disappeared. Donnie fixated on putting his tainted name on everything and building ballrooms and arches and painting a reflecting pool American flag blue. RFK jr talking about vaccine denialism and chemtrails in the face of a measles outbreak.

Tommy: we really need to focus on the....checks notes....FURRIES!

[–] Batman@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

airforce pilots are livid right now. These mfers don't yiff, they wouldn't last a day in the skies.

[–] Smaile@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

First off, the furries were probubly there first, second wtf are you talking about??

[–] TomMasz@piefed.social 2 points 3 weeks ago

Good to see the federal government's openness to hiring the mentally ill.

[–] trslim@pawb.social 2 points 3 weeks ago

furries have been around way longer than the grand old peadoparty, and they will be around way longer than you, old fuck.

[–] square@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 weeks ago

That would explain all the meowing on guard.
