The lines at Costco gas have never moved so fast; everybody is pumping no more than $20 worth of gas.
Do they think gas is going to be cheaper next week?
My assumption would be that they can only afford $20 this week. Even if they would rather fill up when it’s cheaper this week, some simply can’t afford it.

God forbid people use less gas, or even switch to electric. All that's needed to be happy and fulfilled is cheap gas. Fuck the environment, fuck other people killed for this, as long as we have cheap gas, everything goes.
Don't try anything else. Just keep expecting cheap gas.

No need to be new. It doesn't even need to be an EV. Just a car that's more efficient. It can be used, and/or smaller than a SUV/pickup truck.
Or, there may be other options like public transit or cycling. Or maybe even moving to a place where a car is not really a necessity most of the time. Some cities have car sharing companies to bridge the gap and only use a car when necessary.
In some other countries, they have accelerated their transition to renewable energy.

But I guess that no, of course there is simply no alternative to cheap gas.
It's a solution that would work in the next 7 years. Unfortunately I live in the American market where the automakers can't make an affordable car to save their life. I've been looking at the used EV market for a year (Hyundai Ioniq 5 or other non-tesla EV) but I just don't have a spare 20k rolling around in my pockets, nor a salary big enough to finance one. I do take public transportation when I can, but it just doesn't go by my workplace
Unfortunately if nothing slowly starts to change, it's gonna the same thing in several years. Other countries and region will have transitioned and liberated themselves of that dependency while others will still rely, depend, and hope cheap gas.
If someone is a smoker, it's still better to encourage them to try to stop continuously or multiple times, even if not successful, rather than hoping the person will just stop in the future.

I bought a used 2014 Chevy Volt in March and have only filled my tank twice since, two weeks ago was the second time. Tank is still full.

You don’t seem to understand: the price of gas affects the price of everything you buy. Not just what is at the pump.
Oh I understand that. And that's whybwe should work really hard to get rid of gas powered vehicles and find alternatives. But no, the only solution is to burn cheap gas.
How about the majority of us who are already doing that? If I could drive any less, I would. Gas is too expensive
EVs are kinda really expensive when the most common distance you travel is more than 200 miles
Getting people in EV's would be great! if only there were some initiative from governments to help people afford that, that would be good for everyone.
