What doesn't fit here?
The core of the story has to be technology focused.
- If article mentions "AI" in a sentence and then talks about business economics that doesn't make it tech news.
- Gaming is too many layers removed from technology. There are many dedicated communities that are a better fit for it.
- Transporation is too many layers removed from technology. EVs while use many cool technologies have many dedicated communities that are a better fit for it.
- Entertainment is too many layers removed from technology. While sometimes it can fit here, business or cultural aspects of it are a better fit for dedicated communities.
- Cybersecurity. While it heavily focuses on technology, most of the time it's too technical for most people who are not already invested in it. Should be posted in a dedicated communities unless it has broader connection to other tech areas.
Post guidelines
Title format
Post title should mirror the news source title. If you don't like the title of article, look for an alternative source instead of editorializing it.
URL format
Post URL should be the original link to the article (even if paywalled) and archived copies left in the body. It allows avoiding duplicate posts when cross-posting.
[Opinion] prefix
Opinion (op-ed) articles must use [Opinion] prefix before the title. Opinion articles refer to articles that their publisher doesn't explictly endorse.
Country prefix
Country prefix can be added to the title with a separator (|, :, etc.) if the news is from a local publisher who doesn't clearly mention the country.

If you look at the % over long enough time you'll see that Linux desktop has repeatedly climbed and fallen as new commercial OSes are released. Wake me up when we hit 20%.
This video is from last month, but the trend line keeps going up for North American internet traffic attributed to Linux devices 🙂
Damn, it's about to pass MacOS! How is it that I know a dozen Mac users and absolutely no one who uses Linux?
All the AI scraping and search bots are on Linux.
You don't know anyone who has a steam deck? I'm guessing the Linux numbers are partly due to that.
According to Steam's own hardware survey, SteamOS makes up not more than a quarter of Linux systems even on Steam. So even when it comes to gaming, Desktop Linux is a much bigger factor than SteamOS and consequently the Steamdeck.
Steam Deck is primarily a console so I doubt those would register here. But no, I don't know anyone who has one anyway.
I've used my Steam Deck to browse the web and watch videos. I can't say if I'm typical for a Steam Deck user.
I knew a lot when I was around a lot of graphic artists but now I can only think of one person who uses a mac laptop. A lot of people I know don't use computers at all though. just phones.
Probably all them AI Agents... Nothing to do with Linux adaptations. My 2 cents
Desktop Linux has worked fine for me since the time of floppy distros you had to ftp.
I'd like to see all Windows users (on x86-64) who don't absolutely need Windows try Linux.
Linux is what I'd be running if I had an Intel Mac. Linux support of Apple silicon is sketchy at best, though I've heard progress is being made. I don't see a good reason to dump macOS for Linux, but with Windows, it is absolutely a good drop-in replacement you can also run alongside Windows while you decide.
I kinda want to get a gently used x86-64 desktop workstation to turn into a small server. 100% it will run Linux. I won't run Windows in my home.
Look for a small form factor business PC like a Thinkcentre. They are small, quiet and don't use a lot of power. They are great for home servers as long as you don't need a bunch of hard drives. You can still find used ones at decent prices.
Yes, SFF is what I've been looking at. Been mainly looking at Dell, but HP, IBM, Lenovo, I'm sure they're all fine. I will eventually be looking at all of them.
