For months, the children at the Mis Amiguitos preschool in Manhattan had tended to a bundle of corn stalks growing from a patch of dirt on a busy Upper East Side sidewalk, watching with pride as they grew to over seven feet tall.

Then, one Monday morning last month, the children arrived at the school on York Avenue between East 83rd and 84th Streets to a crime scene: The corn had been uprooted and scattered across the pavement.

The day before, surveillance video showed, a man on a bike had approached the corn stalks in broad daylight, dismounted and ripped them out before pedaling off. The police are investigating, but there have been no arrests and no word on a motive, leaving the school and the neighborhood grappling with a seemingly nonsensical act of vandalism.

I never understand these types of actions(the destruction I mean). Like ok, you're a criminal... You steal from a store, you get a benefit (what ever you stole)... You kill someone, you were worried for the rest of your life(either they were going to kill or harm you or you were going to be caught and go to jail).. You rape someone, you couldn't control your emotions or desires... You drink and drive or do drugs, ok you get some sense of pleasure from the chemicals... Maybe you destroy property because you feel like it violated your rights(flock cameras). Not condoning these acts but I can kind of see the logic.

This was like thinking "these kids don't deserve happiness" ... The fuck is wrong with you?

I am convinced most humans have a bit of sadism built in, and some even a lot.

Only thing I can think of as logical is if they think the world's happiness is zero-sum so if kids are sad there is more happiness for them to have???

Maybe if they are sad the kids deserve to be sad too???

Either way... Seek help because those are not good ways of thinking

I guess Flock cameras aren't so great for people on bikes.

"These are not the crimes we're looking for", probably. Though they will certainly add 5 or 6 cameras in the neighborhood, the need is obvious.
