Trump wants to relabel New Mexico as New America days after changing the name of Lake Ontario to Lake Ameria

Donald Trump has already changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario, and now he’s targeting a US state for a rebrand.

Trump is spending the holiday weekend dreaming up his next demand to relabel America’s geography. He posted a map on Truth Social Sunday afternoon of New Mexico, but the word Mexico was crossed out and replaced with America.

Relabeling the southwestern state on the U.S.-Mexico border as New America is reminiscent of an executive order he signed early in his second term, in which he changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.

What about New York, New Jersey and New Hampshire? Four New Americas is going to get confusing. Since stupidity seems to be the primary objective, I would suggest:

New Mexico -> New America

New York -> New New America

New Jersey -> New New New America

New Hampshire -> New New New New America

[–] himmyguap@lemmy.world 5 points 1 hour ago

Only New Mexico is the problem to him. The other three states don't contain the name of a place where a lot of brown people live.

Oh and how about the gas prices soaring due to shortages, because he fucked up in Iran when thinking that would be another distraction?

[–] TheProtagonist@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

New York is going to be New Trumptown soon...

[–] Leviathan@fedinsfw.app 20 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Just to be clear, he hasn't renamed shit. No one is actually gonna follow these bullshit renames after he's dead or out of office. People in every other country and half of your own won't and anyone who does is gonna be a laughing stock. Fucking moronic shit the media spends time legitimizing.

[–] CADmonkey@lemmy.world 4 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Im going to continute to deadname the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario, all my trans homies are doing it.

[–] Wataba@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 hour ago

They're not deadnames. Its called ignoring malicious labels.

[–] FrChazzz@lemmus.org 24 points 23 hours ago (3 children)

He is the dog that finally caught the car. He never knew why he chased it, just that there was a need within him to chase it. And because he expended so much effort into chasing the car he now needs to demonstrate to all the other dogs that he totally knew what he was doing the whole time and even more totally knows what a car is and what to do with it.

This is why he doesn't actually do anything truly "presidential." His idea of being president is the same as when my kid was 8 and said "if I'm ever president, I'm gonna..." and then some cute but completely totalitarian nonsense comes out their mouth. Just as he's the poor man's idea of a rich man, he's a child's idea of the president.

[–] story@lemmy.zip 1 points 28 minutes ago

we are so cooked as a people when a competent president comes in, it'll be Obama all over again but worse, maybe 10 years before we get a snowden situation revealing all the secrets

[–] Phantom_Feline17@lemmy.zip 4 points 22 hours ago

And the sad part is that there are still people who worships him and in their eyes can do no wrong.

[–] Hossenfeffer@feddit.uk 1 points 5 minutes ago

Goddammit, you beautiful genius!

[–] Yerbouti@sh.itjust.works 7 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Just want to remind everyone that everything the US ever had is stolen, including the term "America". The whole fucking continent is named America you stupid fuck, who said you can use it for your country? Everyone in North, South and Central America is American.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 3 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I will defend the naming of United States of America simply because it was the first country to break away from the European powers, the abbreviation of America was simply inevitable given how it took another generation for the Haitians and Mexicans to break free. Also there was a lot of early ambitions that the US would've been closer to the modern EU and would've expanded far further across the continent. Obviously that didn't and won't happen but yeah.

[–] Yerbouti@sh.itjust.works -1 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Haitian where literal slaves who broke free, while the US didn't abolish slavery until 1860s (on paper). Not much lessons of freedom to give here.

And how do you call people who lives on the continent if the US citizens are the real Americans? Nobodys? USA's bitches? Should the Germans be entitled to called themselves European because they did whatever first? Do the Chinese have the rights on Asia because they are the most populous?

This is just more example of US arrogance.

BTW the name comes from the guy mapped south America. Maybe they should be the only Americans.

[–] gallopingsnail@lemmy.sdf.org -1 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago) (1 children)

Easy. In English, if someone lives in the United States, they're American. If someone lives in North America, they're North American; if they live in South America they're South American. Even better, you could use the demonym for the country they're from, i.e. Argentinian, Guatemala, Canadian, etc.

Edit: I think the confusion comes from different culture's viewpoints on the number of continents. In the Anglophone world, there is no continent called "America," there are two continents called North and South America.

[–] Yerbouti@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

[–] gallopingsnail@lemmy.sdf.org -2 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago) (1 children)

Bravo pour avoir ignoré mon commentaire et persisté dans la stupidité.

Later, loser. Thanks for making me type in the Fr*nch "language."

[–] Yerbouti@sh.itjust.works 3 points 47 minutes ago

Ça a dû faire vraiment mal a ton ego de colonialiste de devoir utiliser une autre "langue". Dis bonjour au citoyens de pedoland pour moi.

[–] cinoreus@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Oh yeah, US midterms are coming. Finally realised what's driving this guys maniac episode.

[–] 404found@lemmy.zip 6 points 23 hours ago

If we follow similar logic, Mar-A-Lago should be renamed too because that is Spanish.

[–] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 31 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Those who accuse someone of having Trump derangement syndrome should be called pedophile defenders.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 6 points 22 hours ago

Trump derangement syndrome

Remember, there were conservatives that claim to actually be adults, in office, that advocated for making that a real mental illness, Soviet style.

Meanwhile, I don't think I've ever seen any example of someone with any of this "derangement". It's just people that point out tiny-d donnie's terrible qualities.

You know another name for a Pedophile Defender?

Pedophile.

If there is a Nazi sitting at a dinner table and the other 9 people aren't actively beating the absolute shit of them then there are 10 Nazis having dinner together

When will he rename "pedophilic disorder" to "American disorder"?

[–] Pyr_Pressure@lemmy.ca 47 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (9 children)

I think his obsession with renaming things is so he can have his "legacy" where people a hundred years from now will read in school how the gulf of america used to be called gulf of Mexico until Donald J Trump renamed it.

This way he can do it immediately and without any approvals or permissions from anyone else and it doesn't cost a dime (upfront that he needs permission for, it still costs millions to remake maps and public education posters/billboards and school textbooks and government websites, etc.)

He just doesn't have the foresight to recognize that whatever president comes next will just revert all changes.
