Is he really really alive to begin with though
TechTakes
Big brain tech dude got yet another clueless take over at HackerNews etc? Here's the place to vent. Orange site, VC foolishness, all welcome.
This is not debate club. Unless it’s amusing debate.
For actually-good tech, you want our NotAwfulTech community
To be entirely fair, if his books and interviews are to be believed, every minute of every day, every calorie of every meal, is scheduled, tracked, and analyzed. None of these biohacker guys seem to actually do things for fun.
So he may be alive, but he's not really living.
Business Plan: "That which is dead can never die" as a Service
He's surviving, not living.
Johnson triggered a severe gastric autoimmune disease by taking bullshit peptides. This is how he will die, and he will die way before the average age of death.

Wealthy people always think they can buy immortality.
It's really not that bad of a disease. Still would be super interesting if playing with bullshit peptides made things like it more likely.
I had to go on a long-term medication recently and I agonized about it for a YEAR before deciding that pushing my biochemistry into an unusual state while I was still ticking over without severe acute problems was worth it. I'm always afraid of thinking I know better than evolution.
I’m always afraid of thinking I know better than evolution.
I don’t know about “knowing better”… I think I’d describe evolution as mindbogglingly stupid in ways we haven’t begin to understand yet, but quite often medical intervention does appear to be “how can I trick evolution into not killing me in some unpleasant way, without causing it to kill me in some other unpleasant way”.
It’s really not that bad of a disease
His immune system is eating his stomach lining. He will need a special diet and in time this inflammation will cause cancer. But before that, he will need to be on immune suppression therapy meaning a viral infection could kill him.
This is why you use ~~your kids~~guinea pigs but apparently that's not disruptive enough.
This man is a fool.
He has been cycling and "cleaning" his blood, replacing some of his blood with other people's blood, taking a hundred pills a day, undergoing dozens of risky, unnecessary, surgeries and living in constant terror of death, for a decade.
He says that he got an autoimmune disease after all this, not because he's triggering the shit out of his own body with a constant barrage of foreign bodies and fear, but because a decade ago he used to eat "poorly" and raising a kid was "stressful". He thinks that "damage" just showed up 10 years later, and it definitely couldn't be the bullshit he's doing now.
I am one million percent behind anti-aging research. I am one million percent behind people doing whatever bio-hacking they want to themselves. Just, don't listen to this guy, he's an idiot. Listen to a biologist that researches all the crazy shit this man did, and disects his corpse.
Well, yeah don't think that is strange, if you eliminate stuff like aging and sickness, a random thing like a traffic accident (interesting he picked bus, and not a general traffic accident, or the more common car as a way to die, but the mega rich do hate public transport) will take you out.
There prob is already a science fiction story where a society of near immortals become mega risk averse because they fear falling down a stair and breaking their neck.
Anyone who would have tried the kind of bullshit he's trying, a century ago, would have died of radium poisoning or something equally dreadful. The only reason this idiot is still alive is regulations; however he's pretty good at risk compensating greater safety of quack treatments in 21th century with the sheer number of quack treatments he's doing.
I'm going to prognosticate that he'll die through some combination of the sheer brute force effort he's putting into finding a lethal quack treatment, and the weakening of regulations and corresponding societal norms relating to quack treatments.
