The internet is a brutal place at times. To some, it can ruin someone's well-being. To others, it's a Tuesday. But the apps I just listed can have stuff that makes you question humanity. So which one of them has the most comments that shows you the worst of humanity? And feel free to share examples and your reactions

They are all unhinged in their own way but yeah lemmy is the wackiest for sure.

[–] farmgineer@nord.pub 2 points 3 hours ago

It has to be here because I don't use insta or twitter at all and I'm only looking at reddit for the Japan-specific subs to deal with tax/legal/disaster issues. So, simply by volume, this wins.

I reported a post the other day because it showed people dying in gif that auto-played and I couldn't avoid. That user later DM'd me and called me a coward, so that was a new one. I browse /new so anything I haven't explicitly blocked shows up.

Definitely Lemmy. I haven't really used Twitter or Instagram though. When I visit Reddit, it's usually just through search results.

Lemmy is often a very negative, dark place. It's also lousy with armchair experts speaking with authoritative tone as if trying to demonstrate an example of the Dunning-Kruger effect.

I definitely don't feel like I belong here, but I keep coming back for some reason 🙈

[–] godsammitdam@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Really? I've found it to be the opposite. I left reddit because things felt so toxic with people yelling constantly about how we need to shut up and get with the program, don't speak out, corporations are good, etc etc.

Meanwhile here I've seen lots of people genuinely critiquing systems and lots of memes that are amusing. Are some of them darker? Of course, we live in dark times.

But I also see many groups of people sharing information on alternative projects and programs to not be so reliant on the capitalist systems, sharing posts of how people are fighting back against the right wing fascist takeover.

Hell, right under this post in my feed was this picture.

I've found more hope and inspiration on Lemmy than I ever did on Reddit. Twitter was full of porn and Instagram is just a bunch of liberals (centrists) reposting reddit and facebook lol. Basically, a pressure release valve so you can post and "feel" like you did something without affecting any change.

I left reddit because things felt so toxic with people yelling constantly about how we need to shut up and get with the program, don't speak out, corporations are good, etc etc.

?????? Like I'm a reddit hater, but man you gotta go looking for that kind of agenda there

[–] CathyBikesBook@piefed.zip 0 points 13 hours ago

Since i am no longer on reddit or Twitter, i'd say IG.

[–] Sharkticon@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 day ago

Its objectively twitter/X.

[–] Skanky@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Dear Lord, Facebook. I feel like my IQ drops 5 points just when the page is loading.

[–] ccunning@lemmy.world 36 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Here - I don’t spend any time at those other places so I have no clue what they’re saying.

[–] pdxfed@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If you aren't a Nazi why would anyone still be on Twitter?

If you think destroying the social fabric for advertising is cool keep using meta products

Reddit is just sad and bots.

Fediverse reminds me of early reddit, mostly cool, interesting people.

[–] hamsamrich@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Check out this interesting bug photography I took. Praying mantis eating a fly.

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Well now I'm hungry again.

[–] Nobody@anarchist.nexus 5 points 2 days ago

Up where the air is crisp.

[–] garbagebagel@lemmy.world 32 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Facebook makes me question humanity most tbh.

IG's algorithm is so well-attuned that I very rarely see content I don't like.

Twitter's a dumpster fire I don't touch. and Reddit is just phobic garbage nowadays.

[–] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Its the content you don't see though.

IG's thirst farming stuff is the absolute creepiest to me.

[–] wedge@multiverse.soulism.net 22 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

Reddit - Dunning Kruger: everyone thinks they’re experts in everything. Also psychotic mods.

Twitter - Nazis and Nerds: Anyone still on there for anything other than tech and some science news is either stupid or okay with supporting a Nazi.

Facebook - Anti-Vaxers and Pedophiles: the algorithm ensures that even the most hardcore science groups get flooded with anti-vax comments and intellectually disabled idiots.

Lemmy - Anti-Technologists: there’s a ravenous hatred for AI with zero consideration for how beneficial it is as a technology. Completely misdirected. Get pissed with the corrupt corporations and politicians selling out our privacy, content, land, water, and energy.

LinkedIn - Corporate sycophants and AI: want to talk about virtue signaling?

[–] 4am@lemmy.zip 11 points 1 day ago (6 children)

Find me an AI that wasn’t trained on stolen data by a power-hungry billionaire to make an excuse to buy up literally all the computers that humanity can produce while destroying social, political, and environmental conditions in order to corner the market and make us all subservient to their cloud for tasks we now depend on doing electronically, and it’ll be just fine with “AI”

[–] percent@infosec.pub 1 points 4 hours ago

🤔 would you though?

[–] XiELEd@piefed.social 8 points 1 day ago

Go look through the Local LLM Community. Also Machine Learning is a thing that existed before AI Dungeon, I'm literally learning ML in a class rn.

[–] wraekscadu@vargar.org 4 points 1 day ago

I pirate content. I don't give a shit about "IP", or the concept that surrounds it. Also, open sourced models are about 6 months behind the frontier ones. This has been the case at least for the last 2-3 years. Sooo sorry, don't care about "ooooh they used the content I uploaded on a public site for training".

[–] Tja@programming.dev 4 points 1 day ago

Are you fine with the US? UK? France? Germany? Japan? China? How about Electricity? Does you car run on oil? Do you use plastic? How about nuclear power? Do you eat meat? Buy stuff online? Fly?

If we start judging things on their past/origins you won't be able to use anything and live anywhere.

Lemmy is basically just leftist Reddit in my experience. Otherwise, very very similar problems. The anti-technological development crowd is truly unlike any other though.

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

The anti-technological development crowd

Lol wut?

The fediverse is extremely pro technological development.

The only tech that the fediverse pushes back against is gen ai for valid reasons such as how it is being implemented causing environmental, social, and economic harm.

[–] wraekscadu@vargar.org 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

as how it is being implemented causing environmental, social, and economic harm.

Agreed, valid criticisms. Who however, is to blame? The science and the scientists behind it, the technology itself or the capitalists commercializing it?

A very valid set of criticism aimed at the wrong entities causes a lot of harm, does it not?

The tech itself is quite cool. IF implemented in a correct regulatory environment, it can do absolute wonders.

What should be the approach? Fighting for the correct regulatory environment or just shitting on the tech itself?

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 2 points 1 day ago

the capitalists commercializing it

All of the problems are about how the capitalists are implementing it for commercial reasons. Shitting on the tech is the best approach because the capitalists are being given every exemption from taxation and regulation possible so it isn't like we can wish for a magic regulatory environment to fix anything. GenAI should be treated like Meta's glasses, tech being forced on everyone in the worst possible way and violating all kinds of rights and it should be banned for general use until such time that some kind of guard rails and regulation exists.

[–] Lennny@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

AIs out there saying you can spell poop with the letters in Wednesday. I don't understand why we're trusting it to do anything. Its a Google search bot farm, and we already know how shit Google is to use, why is a million searches through it better than 1? It can't code for shit, each patch Blizzard has put out since AI is has gotten bigger, is worse. At its best it made funny will smith spaghetti videos, because of how shitty they were. Now it's just a propaganda machine; Our lil digital Himmlers.

[–] S_H_K@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago

Recently i only lurk here historically 4chan by a large margin

[–] finalarbiter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Every platform has its crazies. Even here, I frequently come across takes so ignorant and disconnected from reality that I wonder if the commenter fell through a portal from some parallel dimension.

Even on inane shit, the crazies really come out of the woodwork. I had someone suggest to me recently (on a different account) that I was a monster on par with Hitler for setting up Windows on my grandmother's computer instead of forcing her to use Linux. She's 87 and wants to type shit in word, she isn't going to learn a whole new operating system and word processor for that when she can barely figure out how to log in to her email.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Lol. If you don't bow down to the Linux gods the Lemmy mob will come for you in the dark of night.

[–] untorquer@quokk.au 9 points 2 days ago

But VIM solves all these problems

[–] Paradachshund@lemmy.today 4 points 1 day ago

I see a lot of dumb or reactionary comments all over, but the most truly "what's wrong with" ones? Here, unfortunately 😅

[–] chunes@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

All of them have problems. Lemmy is arguably the least diverse and thus the biggest circlejerk.

[–] Lasherz12@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago

You didn't mention it, but 100% Facebook. Twitter is 2nd, but the edginess explains some of it away as cringe insecure angst. Facebook is people who are largely just incredibly fucking stupid and sheeplike.

[–] bananabread@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (3 children)

Still being on Twitter would be a red flag...

oh, I already know what's wrong with these people

[–] Mac@mander.xyz 5 points 1 day ago

Insta is the only one i use and basically every post has awful comments that make me question humanity.

[–] VitoRobles@lemmy.today 8 points 1 day ago

Twitter allows you to say the N word. And openly share racist shit. They allow you to dox and make threats to anybody that isn't aligned with Musk. It's also full of bots that retweet.

The worst part is that it feeds Grok. So Grok-powered bots say racist shit that get fed back into Grok.

[–] ModernRisk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 day ago

Instagram for sure. Insane amount of Nazi comment, ragebait, racism and overall hatred.

I often feel like people on Instagram have not seen the sun light for a couple of months to a year.

[–] HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club 3 points 1 day ago

I generally understand what's wrong with people on every platform except for Lemmy. Lemmy has its own strange where you really have to work at how they got to where they are now.

[–] brownsugga@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

Twitter is clearly the worst by a huge margin

[–] thisbenzingring@lemmy.today 5 points 1 day ago

once you get a good block list, lemmy is fucking awesome

[–] Toasticus@piefed.social 1 points 1 day ago

Hands down - Kiwi Farms.

[–] dektep@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

YouTube comments always surprise me with their stupidity. LiveGore comments are unsurprisingly abhorrent

[–] Shadow@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago

Lemmy or LinkedIn. Facebook I long ago unfriended anyone crazy. Instagram I only have my dogs account and he just follows other dogs, so it's quite nice.
