As someone who also bought a WinRAR license ages ago: yes and I hate 7zip's UI with a passion. Sorry, I'll stick to WinRAR which suits my needs just fine.
Reminds me of stupid me after I received a ginormous family inheritance I went through a phase of buying every stupid little thing that I would've never bought before. It was sometime around the implosion of the John McAfee empire debacle I was vaguely aware that something was going awry with him & the company but I was lost in my own little world buying post-it notes at a Staples store.
At the checkout counter the employee brought my attention to a small display of heavily discounted McAfee antivirus software something-something for only $5 and all my conscious brain knew at the time was
"Wow, didn't that used to cost $40-$75? and McAfee has been in the news lately. I have no idea what's going on but yes I will pay $5 for this thing." 🤦🏼♀️
It was completely useless and I doubt I ever took it out of the package before eventually throwing it away.

In the scale of dumb things to waste money on, WinZip is about as low as it gets (esp. in healthcare!), but still - it's not like the poor bastards had any to begin with!

Do people even still need to use WinRAR? I mean, the rar format isn't even that prevalent anymore, not even for piracy stuff.....
It was useful 20 years ago, but like, most OS have native support for it now, making it even further useless to download a WinRAR.

7-Zip has long replaced WinZip and WinRAR for me.
I use peaZip because I'm a hipster
I use PeaZip because it's the only thing I've found that can handle the ancient ACE archive format.

I haven't used WinRar since I discovered 7zp hella years ago. Not only is 7zp 100% free, it's faster and has better compression than WinRAR.
In ancient times, 2010, I actually bought Winrar. I wanted to support the developer. Even back then as a child, I found it so cool that someone would give me a very useful tool like this for free, with an infinite free trial. And then I found out about FOSS, after that my mind was blown.

Yep, it's kind of a racket. The license popup is there to let people know that, hey, technically you have to buy this... but they don't care if Joe Blow buys it, it's free for you, you single-serve mother fucker. A company, though? A company has to buy a copy for every user, and that adds up.
It also acts as a training system so that workers are more familiar with it already, when they have to use to at work. It adds value to their product that everyone is familiar with it already so companies don't have to train them to use it.
