If it's got four player split screen multiplayer it'll probably be fun.

If you were to tell me some game dev is releasing a 4 player split screen fps, I would be on board. I haven't had that much fun since screen cheat.
There are loads of local 4 players games, not always split screen though.
Hazmat suit on.
I have no problem with people having fun, but my cousin buys fifa or Football manager every year. Which is fine, he has fun with it. Good. But recently he asked money for fuel. And I lost it. All he wanted was 60 dollars because he ran out budget and is maxed at credit card and payday is 3 days away. I refused stating he has spent over 90$ just this week on a game with no meaningful upgrades. never got big limits, he only has one card of $4k, so not financially irresponsible, but starting to with these kind of decision making. And I need to stop it it's track.
I can't understand decision making like this, he is smart enough to know how much fuel he consumes, he bought the game when his tank was around 20-25% full. 3 days later tank is empty and now it's borrowing time? No man fuck that.
Thr 90 dollar game is jot his problem, he probably spend hundreds or thousands on fifa microtransactions.
I can understand being unwilling to enable his bad habits, but why does game choice matter? If he spent it on indies you'd have helped out? I think that's just as bad.
That's a fair point though. Although he needed money only for three days. And i guess I would've lent him because he would return it. Come to think of it, I'm feeling like the asshole now.
Any advice on how else can I make him understand priority?
You can try all you like by being as educational and understanding as possible, but from what I've seen while doing that exact song and dance, is that people don't care a lot of the time. Like, a scary amount of the time.
I still recommend at least trying, but don't expect much out of people who can't think about the next week, let alone the next month/year. :-/
Maybe talk about how you know asking for money sucks and how by budgeting and prioritizing he can not only never need to ask, he can find himself getting things that he wants more and not having to worry about running out of money for things he needs.
How much is it telling others not to have fun, and how much is just expressing disappointment? Not everything is a contest on how much we can sway someone to our side, sometimes we just want to express how something could be better.
Not everyone has fun buying the same thing over and over again while most anything new and original languishes in development hell.
The one that inspired this post was about the free remaster to Witcher 3. Free.
Disappointment is when you're sad because you were expecting or hoping for something and didn't get it.
So if you've somehow picked up Black Ops 6 as the first CoD game and were sad that Black Ops 7 was basically the same, that would be disappointment. If instead the last Call of Duty game you played was the original Modern Warfare 2 in 2009 and have since never played the series because you realised in 2011 that the series wasn't really evolving, I think it would be misleading to call it "disappointment" that Black Ops 7 is not much different from 6.
At that point I think you're not really disappointed, and are just criticising something that you don't like. And of course, criticising stuff you don't like is not automatically bad, but it becomes something different. And in this case often the criticism could be well voiced as "I don't play these games because I played one in 2009 and look for new experiences" rather than "these games are bad because they don't offer new experiences compared to 2009".
Not everyone has fun buying the same thing over and over again while most anything new and original languishes in development hell.
But surely this isn't how you feel? If I had 100,000 hours to play games I think I'd have 1,000,000 hours of games to try to cram in. There are so many good, original games.
Not everyone enjoys every type of game, either. Just because theres millions of hours of gameplay available doesnt mean that those hours would be worth trading in.
Personally I'm not a fan of how some games want to add conflict to gameplay that had no need of it. Sometimes i just want to have fun building through an interesting automation game without having some random alien horde messing everything up.
Wow, a post about me personally, without mentioning me, or the event that spawned it? I feel honored!
For anyone not knowing what this post is, just check our interaction with scrubbles here:
Felt that it was better not to mention anyone specifically, and while it was inspired by that, it was caused by several threads yesterday I saw of everyone just bashing games left and right. However I saw your update, and while I still don't understand why you'd want to call out the game at all if it's not your thing, I do respect admitting you were incorrect. That's hard to do online and rare to see, I respect that.
Yeah, me not knowing about other threads and seeing the comment, followed by the front page post meme was a funny experience. Such a deeply human-drama situation, Lemmy really is awesome haha
If you're curious, I wrote a few of my thoughts on a comment here, kinda sorta answering why I made that call-out.
Just to ask, if it is a game you have already decided you don't like, why even go into the comments to bash on the game and the company? From what I see, you didn't even watch the trailer where it showed you it was a free upgrade.
I'm not trying to attack you here, I just genuinely wonder why you put so much energy into something you don't even care about in the first place? If I don't like something, I don't waste my time with it at all, so I'm just curious to know why is all. Sorry if it comes off as anything other than genuine. I swear it is in good faith!
It's hard to explain, but it's one of the many things that are maddening to me, with AAA titles.
I've played absurdly good indie games. Absurdly good indie games aren't even rare, they come out all the time, faster than someone can play even just all the ones they like.
Meanwhile, Big Games' success happens simply because they are the only ones with access to the spotlight, and our culture absorbs them as deserving of enormous praise, masterpieces, and the like.
If you really, really, REALLY boil my point down to its core, I guess what I meant to say is
Capitalism bad.
And when I saw the word Remaster, after Bethesda's and Activision's last few years of "business", and the Cyberpunk fiasco, I was on a hair trigger.
Apart from that though, it wasn't nearly as "Game I didn't like" as it looks.
Hating a game is not disliking it. I really liked Witcher, and loved what it could have been. My experience playing it, was "being let down", by all the Shit that could have been, but wasn't.
If you want to see someone going on a deeper such spiral than me, check out SkittyBitty's Tears of the Kingdom review, on YouTube.
Thank you for taking the time to answer!
I still don't fully understand, but I understand more than I did, and that's all I was going for. Thank you, again! :-)
Your game decisions don't exist in a vacuum and signal to the industry that consumers will gargle whatever slop they produce.
True. People are allowed to enjoy what they want..... But when people spend money on pre-releases of half finished games, cash grab micro transaction games, exploitative live service games, gambling loot box hell, companies that use crunch and exploitation and then fire all game devs...... Sure you're allowed to enjoy the game; but come on man, this is not the game industry we should be supporting.
That's what i said
Because people bought horse armour the industry is what it is today.
It is becoming strange that the only games I seem to be looking forward to were from asian developers. But at least there was something to look forward to.
so much drama around GTA6 and it hasnt been released yet. and rockstar making ti worst by trying to subpeona the leakers.
GTA was in my mind but worse this thread was started because I saw someone post complaining about the free Witcher 3 remaster. However yes the hate here for GTA 6 is becoming more annoying than the issues themselves. Everyone has to make sure they're seen on the bandwagon.
What games?
I didn't see any comment at all when i browse this morning, it's all 0 on a 5 hours post.
