When I heard about this, i instantly downloaded Eden emulator. They have their own website and repository, so Nintendo cannot just misuse DMCA there.
Edit: Still playing with Yuzu. Its probably time to move on. Ryujinx was problematic back then, BTW.
I've been using Eden for almost a year now off and on. Performance is pretty flawless, there are some graphical glitches here and there, but nothing that outright breaks the games. Eden didn't supply the keys, I guess that's the difference.
I tried Ryujinx and couldn't get it to work for shit on Mint, but on Steam Deck it actually works fantastic.
Ryujinx is said to be less glitchy, but in Tears of the Kingdom (that is when I first tried Ryujinx) there was a game breaking bug using the ingame camera. Yuzu worked. Your experience with Eden sounds like my experience with Yuzu, with pretty good performance, but a few glitches. And that's not a coincidence, because (if I get it right) Eden is a fork of Yuzu.
Are we sure GitHub didn’t take itself down though?
My reading is this: Nintendo is paying a lawyer firm that, unfortunately for Nintendo, can't do all the things Nintendo dream (ie: physically slap in the face whoever is NOT actively give them money) because they loss most cases, and when they lose a case... that's a precedent.
However, the lawyer firm is taking money from Nintendo, and they would like to keep doing so; unfortunately for them "doing nothing" is not a good call to keep the Nintendo money flow in their pocket.
So, they figured this out:
Point A: Microsoft want to be friend with Nintendo (Nintendo publish few games on Google's Android and MS hope Nintendo will consider MS's stores too).
Point B: Microsoft own Github, and Github has to please whosoever Microsoft wants pleased)
Point C: lawyer send letter to MS-github: "we represent Nintendo, and Nintendo would be pleased if you do this unlawful thing and you show off your shitty EULA against these poor bugger like it was actual law". MS-Github obbey hoping some Mario's money will come in MS-store later or extremely later (which is "sooner or late", but for very desperate simp)
Point D: lawyer present Nintendo their "doing" as it was actual lawyer job to ignorant morons; being as such, Nintendo pays.
I don't know the first thing about running a law firm, but 400 sounds like a lot of potential billable hours. It'd be amazing if these repos banded together and filed counter-notice.
I wonder what number someone pulled out of their ass at Nintendo to justify the cost of doing all this the past couple years. The Switch is getting pretty long in the tooth and the market's been at saturation. I really do think this is really just about someone at Nintendo being butthurt and not good business.
Nah, the DMCAs are legit, because the repos are sharing cryptographic keys.
I’ve not looked at the repos, but ideally they’d be secondary “we aren’t affiliated with the main repo *wink wink*” that can just be recreated while the main emulation repo is left alone.
I doubt that’s all of them though, but any of the ones that are both the emulator and keys in one was just waiting to be taken down. Terrible opsec.
And they’re still not doing tariff refunds.
I blame githubers more than Nintendo pressure.
