Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

I've spent hours and hours in this room! I've laid underneath it. The walls bow inward. The pic doesn't do justice to how huge it feels in person. In this room, there is only barrell

[–] kerrigan778@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Do the walls bow inward from the gravity exerted by the barrel?

[–] Juice@midwest.social 2 points 1 day ago

All cause and effect is barrel

[–] Hikermick@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

How big are we talking? Do I have to duck when I walk under it? Hard to tell from this picture as there's no banana for scale

[–] Juice@midwest.social 14 points 2 days ago

Its not quite that big. If you're on the ground under it and reach up you'll touch it. Probably 8 feet across at the widest point and 12 or so feet long? Its not collossal. But it feels much bigger in the room, so my measurements could be all off

knock, knock

Hello, can Diogones cone out to play today?

[–] festnt@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago (2 children)

but... barrels are cilindrical

[–] CalypsoGirl@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago

cylindrical?

[–] notabot@piefed.social 1 points 1 day ago

Sigh, I'm sure I checked that speeling multiple times.

You too can see the gigantic barrel if you're willing to go to Ohio!

Skip it and go to the Franklin Park Conservatory down the street.

I've got a bone to pick with the Columbus Art Museum when a security guard yelled at us for sitting on a giant yellow bench... Which turned out to be an unlabeled piece of art, which was negative rubber casting of half of the artist's bathtub. Put in some fucking benches, and put a sign on the damn "art".

[–] A_be_seedy@beehaw.org 5 points 2 days ago

Dang I totally thought this was The Mattress Factory Pittsburgh. But nope, OHIO.

[–] Ertain@feddit.online 37 points 2 days ago

I have to admit, that's a dope ass barrel.

[–] MsPenguinette@lemmy.world 48 points 2 days ago (3 children)

What came first, the barrel specs or the room specs?

[–] driving_crooner@lemmy.eco.br 25 points 2 days ago

Some museums would put up the walls if the art displayed needs to.

[–] Juice@midwest.social 14 points 2 days ago

The room is part of the installation, the walls slant and bow slightly to make the barrel feel even more imposing

[–] otacon239@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It just showed up in there one day. No one knows how it got there.

[–] AnyOldName3@lemmy.world 21 points 2 days ago

Anything can be art if you make it hard enough to remove from the building site that will later become an art museum.

[–] deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz 23 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Bottom of the barrel art right there.

[–] AudaciousArmadillo@piefed.blahaj.zone 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That is very clearly the side of the barrel, smh

[–] deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Nononono. The sides are flat discs, the bottom is the nice plump round bit. Just like the front, back and top.

[–] SapphironZA@sh.itjust.works 12 points 2 days ago

My Indiana Jones senses are tingling.

[–] verdare@piefed.blahaj.zone 10 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

This is clearly a trap. There’s a hidden pressure plate in the floor somewhere and stepping on it releases the barrel.

[–] Danarchy@lemmy.nz 11 points 2 days ago

This puppy will hold a lotta root beer pats barrel

[–] Hupf@feddit.org 5 points 2 days ago

Do a barrel roll

[–] Atelopus-zeteki@fedia.io 6 points 2 days ago

That's the barrel I wanna live in!

[–] hedge_lord@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

I want to taste the barrel.
