Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Come on Yankee soldiers, mutiny!

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 2 points 18 hours ago

Isn't it supposed to be the job of every US soldier to disobey illegal orders. Not that it's ever worked out that way but it would be fun if for once they could actually take their oath seriously

[–] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 7 points 1 day ago

Yeah I mean...imagine...you'd have an aircraft carrier.

Everybody listens to an aircraft carrier.

"Thank you for your service!" /s

This is how you radicalize soldiers

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

thats also why dictators/fascist keep thier military weak and incompetent. not paying them enough, barely sustaining them, defunding them.

[–] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

But also wanting to ~~invade neighbors~~ conduct special military operations, for some reason, with that same military. O.o

[–] db_null@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The war on Iran is doing a good job weakening the US military. The funds are going to the paramilitary ICE thugs. Priority is keeping the local population under control after fucking with the mid-terms

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 16 hours ago

the msm stopped reporting it too, they know its still going on unabated, because it was getting too much negative attention.

“This is heartbreaking for me. I don’t know how I can mentally continue working 12+ hour days ‌knowing that my dad is somewhere, possibly being treated like a criminal.”

My dude, they are already treating him like a criminal.

[–] anarchy79@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

They're treating the troops as expendable slaves, so what else is shocking.

[–] Arcanepotato@crazypeople.online 146 points 2 days ago (8 children)

“Having a family member in the military is not a free pass to violate our nation’s laws,” the DHS said.

I hope more people realize this and understand that by "serving" the state you are also protecting ICE.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 47 points 2 days ago (22 children)

What a great way to make your trained killers remember their oath to the Constitution to protect against its enemies, both foreign and domestic.

If only we could get people to understand that the US military has been the global "ICE" for decades.

ICE is nothing more than Imperialism turned inward.

Kinda reminds me of WWII when we had Japanese American soldiers and likely their families in camps with all of their assets seized.

[–] soratoyuki@piefed.zip 57 points 2 days ago

Signing up to kill and die for a country that actively, openly hates you was certainly a choice.

[–] flandish@lemmy.world 28 points 2 days ago (19 children)

awww. STOP VOLUNTEERING FOR THE MILITARY.

[–] MehBlah@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago (5 children)

I'm poor and desperate. Whose hiring? System is working as intended.

[–] zbyte64@awful.systems 5 points 1 day ago (3 children)

The purpose of a system is what it does.

Obama's immigration policy, especially in his second term, prioritized the deportation of people with criminal records. Under Trump, only 29% of deported people had a criminal conviction. Most had no criminal record.

edit = cut and pasted from 'factually' site.

And Trump is paying billions more for ICE.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 20 points 2 days ago (2 children)

29%

No way it's that high. Unless something has drastically changed over the past six months, I think you're off by an order of magnitude. Last I looked it was closer to 2.9%

Also almost 3 times as many individuals kidnapped by ICE have died under Trump's administration than all of Obama's administration so far, the deaths are only going to increase.

[–] AgentSeven@lemmy.zip 16 points 2 days ago (4 children)

I will not give a fuck about these stories until I can reliably feel like they a) didn't vote for this and b) wouldn't vote for this yet again.

[–] anarchy79@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

The consequences of my actions are suddenly facing me, and now I don't wish for it to happen to me or my family anymore. But I still wish for it to happen to everybody else, so I'm still gonna vote for it. GoFundMe when?

Just when you think America is scraping rock bottom ethics/morality/humanity, they surprise you by going even lower.

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 12 points 2 days ago (3 children)

The families of people who serve in the military should not be treated better than any other American family is, so this is not a new low, it's just the same low as usual.

Pissing off military service members is a bold move.
