Communism is when the means of production are seized through nasty disgusting authoritarianism 😠

Socialism is when we nicely ask the bourgeoisie to relinquish their private property and means of production, and if they refuse, that’s their right and we have to respect it 🙂

Let’s be honest, they most likely think socialism starts and ends with a robust welfare state.

[–] ShimmeringKoi@hexbear.net 38 points 2 years ago (1 children)

One time someone I know in real life who considers themselves smart told me that being able to buy flavoring sauces with food stamps in the US is an example of socialism

[–] PKMKII@hexbear.net 35 points 2 years ago (1 children)

From each according to their fixin’s, to each according to their flavors

Socialism is when you pay taxes and they go to the military industrial complex

  • something I've actually heard several liberals unironically argue
[–] SacredExcrement@hexbear.net 12 points 2 years ago

"Giving money to the MIC and intelligence agencies so they can kill socialists is itself socialist" is certainly a take

[–] SuperZutsuki@hexbear.net 34 points 2 years ago

"Communism is when the government is the only corporation"

[–] D61@hexbear.net 26 points 2 years ago (1 children)

They need to read a book that gives them basic definitions of Capitalism, Communism, and Socialism..

[–] jaeme@hexbear.net 26 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Slight Correction: They need to read a book.*

Libs understanding of socialism is literally "when the government does stuff"

Christ on a bike... pain

Might actually be a bot caught in some kind of semantic loop.

[–] Crowtee_Robot@hexbear.net 59 points 2 years ago

"Human nature" is such a lazy intellectual cop-out. Just admit the limitations of your own knowledge and understanding, ffs. You'll be a better person for it.

In addition to the old classics, there's some pretty new and terrible strands of brainworms.

Few movements self-identify as “Socialist”, at best it’s a taxonomical label. Attempting to talk about the finer points of socialism is akin to debating the pros/cons of “Animals” – it’s an overly broad topic and doomed to spiral into bike-shedding over semantics as soon as the conversation starts to look interesting.

Just confidently demonstrating their own lack of knowledge in the dumbest possible way. If anything the opposite is true, so many different movements have self-identified as socialist that it can sometimes be hard to see what they have in common.

[–] SeventyTwoTrillion@hexbear.net 29 points 2 years ago

"I have no idea what socialism is. Given that I am the protagonist of reality, therefore, nobody must have any idea what socialism is."

[–] axont@hexbear.net 26 points 2 years ago

Liberals have such goofy nuance brain. Their primary instinct is to make everything as muddled and abstract as possible to paralyze any thought. This guy is arguing socialism is so vague it might as well not even exist, it's just a linguistic quirk.

I have to guess liberals with this level of solipsism have never met nor interacted with socialists in their daily lives. Leftism is just something they've kind of heard about, never anything they've had to confront except maybe confused people online.

[–] sexywheat@hexbear.net 26 points 2 years ago

it's like they're trying as hard as they can to be wrong on purpose

Denmark is not socialist

At least someone in the comments seems to have a clue.

nor is it capitalist

meow-tableflip

I love the idea of socialism. It unfortunately dies at the hand of human nature, but it’s great for ants and bees.

jesse-wtf

[–] cosecantphi@hexbear.net 39 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

but it’s great for ants and bees.

socialism is when you're born sterile and instinctively forced to dedicate your entire life to the survival of your queen and her offspring

[–] micnd90@hexbear.net 16 points 2 years ago

unfortunately it dies at the hand of human nature

This dragon from Skyrim would want to have a word with you

Human nature lmao. Cool, just don't look at evolution or anything. Cooperation leads to the best odds of survival for the group. Competition is a dead end. Look at a shark. Unchanged for a hundred million years. Apex predator. Why? Because its got nowhere to go. Its reached the end. It will die as it is. Cooperation is human nature. Capitalism is antisocial. Libs are hopeless.

I read that thread earlier and almost got an aneurysm. The brainworms in this one are really strong... How can you talk so confidently about something while being totally wrong?

[–] idkmybffjoeysteel@hexbear.net 9 points 2 years ago

It's the male disease. Men are stunningly and embarassingly full of shit.

[–] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 years ago

Christ looking at this is embarrassing. Six months ago I might have been made fun of in this thread
