I'm on CachyOS and would like to play the native linux version of Marathon (and other native linux ports for that matter) but I've got no clue where to get them, and am not too keen on buying them. Any idea where I may find it?

How to install FitGirl or DODI Windows repacks in Linux using Lutris.

this has worked for me 95% of the time, if it doesn't go through on the first go try changing the GE Proton version you're using for the installer

An issue with programs compiled for Linux is that they may be dynamically linked with an older library or not be optimized well.

Why not stick to windows ports which have the knack of bundling everything you need.

anything worth playing native on linux is free to begin with. studio-made linux ports are unsupported dead-ware when proton and wine exist. just get the normal pirate grains and run them thru. it's fukin marathon, you could run that shit on a 10 year old phone.

They're probably talking about the new Marathon game. The OGs are freeware now.

Was very much talking about the original trilogy, was not aware it was made free.

The one game I play that has a native linux version, KSP, actually runs better using the windows version through proton than it does with the native linux version.

1337x seems to have a lot of linux native torrents. I didn't look before I basically posted the same question as you lol

rutorrents. or any torrent site I imagine. But as with any torrent site, Caveat emptor.

I remember fmhy.net (if you don't know the site already) has a section on games that references Linux specifically.

U can try rutracker.org. It has the largest collection of native Linux games I'm aware of. In particular, u can try the native games for Linux board.

They also have easy-to-use ports of Windows games here

Someone also mentioned Torrminatorr to me for Linux games but I haven't checked it out myself

Occasionally I also see scene releases and repacks for Linux in the traditional places like The Pirate Bay and 1337x. I've had good luck with jc141's repacks. They use a compressed filesystem that is mounted and read as u play the game so u don't even have to install them ^^

Rutracker is legit :3 Every Linux release I get from there is top-quality, highly rec pirate-jammin

Create an account here and there should be a subforum for p2p native linux games. LinuxRuleZ primarily makes the torrents, but if it is not a popular game or if the torrent is old, it is likely dead, so please keep an eye on new torrent posts and try to seed them when they are available. We need more seeders, especially for obscure games and software. LinuxRuleZ does seem to post on rutracker as well, though.

slight tangentI like seeding both LinuxRuleZ and johncena141. LinuxRuleZ is basically a script with an archive appended at the end, which the script launches a gui to unpack to a location of your choosing. I'm a fan of johncena141 for using dwarfs/bubblewrap to create compressed, sandboxed containers to run games, so you don't have to do any installing.

tangentThough sometimes I wish there was a way for bittorrent to somehow support sending reproducibly compressed packets through the network that can still have its checksum be verified after it is decompressed. Downloading a lot of these games tends to fill up my drives, and I wish I could squeeze out more space by having uncompressed torrents put inside a large dwarfs container with deduplication and compression applied. Then through the network, it would be sent as zlib compressed pieces so that bandwidth isn't wasted. Not sure if this idea is dumb or impossible in some aspects.

I also use a torrent search engine to find torrents. It doesn't really tell where they are from all the time, so I try to do some digging to see if I can find the source to verify if it is reputable.

Marathon (2026) is a live service game that will ban you if you use Linux and somehow bypass the check for Linux on startup.

The Marathon Trilogy is free software and might already be packaged for your distribution: https://alephone.lhowon.org/. It’s also available on Steam.
