Honeymoon phase OVER!! Stable, long term relationship phase built on mutual respect has STARTED.

[–] MountingSuspicion@reddthat.com 66 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Beat me to it. No longer are they dreaming of what things will look like, they are seeing the results and the reality of what it looks like to have someone actually care about their well being. May we all be so lucky, honestly.

[–] atomicorange@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Could you imagine if we got used to that? Started to expect functional government? It’s so refreshing to have even one decent example. I want it so bad.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 10 points 1 week ago

The best part of the relationship comes after the honeymoon phase ends, when the initial excitement and passion gives way to comfort, familiarity, and long-term stability.

But I don't expect right-wingers to understand that. They're kinda hedonic and self-centered, for all their talk of "family values"...

[–] WhoIzDisIz@lemmy.today 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

No way! There's LOTS of... um... {insert preferred term for "strenuous activities" here} left to return to the ruling class. The fun(d)s just getting started! Endless Honeymoon!

WSJ is so desperate to be relevant again they are straight up printing obvious lies.

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 37 points 1 week ago

It is the Murdock way

[–] infinitesunrise@slrpnk.net 21 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

WSJ editorial board are basically an anti-progress FUD campaign committee and always have been. They spent the entirety of Bill de Blasio's (Second best NYC mayor in my life) double term desperately trying to tear him down, too. They're also the origin of the term "bike lobby" or more specifically "The all-powerful bike lobby" in reference to an imaginary and shady organization supposedly responsible for getting share bikes and bike lanes onto the street. WSJ is a rag.

He accomplished more good in a few months than trump did in almost 6 years. I also haven't heard him constantly blame the last guy for all his failings. +1 for this new mayor!!

[–] AI_toothbrush@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 week ago

He accomplished more than basically any politician in the last 20 years in the us.

And since The Constitution says Trump can't run again, it doesn't matter that The Constitution says Mamdani can't run either!

[–] huppakee@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Non-american here, why wouldn't Mamdani not be able to run for president?

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 28 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (6 children)

Gotta be born American.

Like, there's been debate about children of US military born overseas, even in a US military base which is for all intents legally American soil.

Edit:

And to clarify, Mamdani ain't trying to change that

People just started saying it.

[–] Kazumara@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

children of US military born overseas

The debate about what natural-born means has often been confusing to me.

The USA does both, Jus Soli and Jus Sanguinis to determine citizen status at birth. But when it's about eligibility for president, suddenly extra weight should be put on Jus Soli being the only real proper form of citizenship? That makes no sense to me.

I thought natural-born would mean citizen at birth, not immigrated and naturalized. To avoid situations where for example some English noble immigrates and naturalizes in name only, uses his wealth to gain political power, and then puts the US back under English influence. It makes sense to me that the founders of a new republic would want to avoid having it twisted by former masters.

IIRC, can't be a naturalized citizen.

[–] hemko@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Only USAian born citizen can be elected, Mamdani was born in Uganda. That's why there was the whole conspiracy theory about Obama being born in Haiti

I would vote for Mamdani for president.

The establishment in 'Murica are genuinely terrified of his success

If he shows that it's possible, then they're afraid that other places will want the same

When' Muricans travel and actually experience what it's like to live somewhere else, the smart few start making plans for their escape to the civilised world

[–] mirshafie@europe.pub 9 points 1 week ago

They've bombed, blockaded and invaded other countries for less.

[–] BlaestEgnen@feddit.dk 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

the smart few start making plans for their escape to the civilised world

If by "the smart few" you mean highly sort after professionals, such as PHDs. We're often seeing the opposite, a majority of them seek locations at which they'll get the highest pay - Which tends to be USA, due to the exploitation of everyone beneath them

[–] abigscaryhobo@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Except we have lost more than 10,000 STEM PhDs from federal departments since Trump entered office, outnumbering new hires 11 to 1 (https://www.science.org/content/article/u-s-government-has-lost-more-10-000-stem-ph-d-s-trump-took-office)

And 15% less PhD applicants, 21% less of foreign PhD applicants (https://www.chemistryworld.com/news/losing-an-entire-generation-of-scientific-talent-top-us-universities-accepted-15-fewer-phds/4023877.article)

Usually people come here for work when trained at that level, but we are quickly heading towards a "brain drain" of losing our highly educated population.

WSJ can suck my salty balls.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago (1 children)

How odd for a Murdoch sewer rag to go after a progressive politician who’s running their town.

[–] nightwatch_admin@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I thought the WSJ was a Bezos bootlicker rag? But same difference.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

No that’s the WaPo. Murdoch subsumed the WSJ in . . . jebus 2007. I didn’t think it was that long ago.

[–] hendu@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 week ago

Nah, that's the Washington Post.

WSJ has a bad case of MDS: Mamdani Derangement Syndrome

[–] uriel238@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'd say WSJ is captured but it never really was un-captured.

It has gone total MAGA since Trump 1.0 though.

[–] Snapz@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago (2 children)

WSJ is Murdoch owned. Purchased in 2007. Hasn't "gone" anything, it's fucked pre trump

[–] mirshafie@europe.pub 2 points 1 week ago

Murdoch media created Trump

Good, the honeymoon is over. Mamdani's actions as mayor are no longer shocking, they are business as usual. Now the MAGAs and the Corpo-Establishment Dems can just stand there, while he makes them look like fools as he defies their predictions of a Socialist hell hole.

A recent poll that showed that 30% of Dems now identify as Democratic Socialists. That was about two weeks ago. I'll bet its even higher now. This is the wave of the future of the Democratic Party. They better get on, or they'll be left behind.

Sub 50k Beats Trump by 31 points

100k+ beats Trump by 38 points

Isn't there someone else in the room you are forgetting to ask?

1,000,000,000+ currently planning the municipal level sequel to the business plot.

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 week ago

Ah, so they are now in the committed and loving stage of the relationship.

Understandable actually that MAGA and the GOP would have no fucking clue what that's about.

[–] crusa187@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Corporate media will be fearmongering over progressives all the way through 2028 election and beyond, so I guess get used to it. This is literally what they’re paid to do, and if you’re anti-Zionist, it goes double. Lies, FUD, hatchet jobs, anything to protect the billionaires who own those networks.

[–] anarchy79@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

I've been used to that for decades upon decades.

[–] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

This is the same Wall Street Journal that is owned by NewsCorp? The multimedia company operated by Rupert Murdoch as a propaganda machine for right wing fascist policy and heavily tried to influence government to favor the ultra wealthy and hive them power. That Wall Street Journal?

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

The sexiest percent favorability. Nice!

[–] CaliforniaSober@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

It’s not time enough for traditional measurements of a political “honeymoon”…

To clarify, “honeymoon” is NOT a measure of accomplishment; “honeymoon” is a period of possibly effective influence.

The “presidential honeymoon” is the first year of every presidential admin, representing the best time to push forward initiatives before the next 2 year congressional elections can push back…

It’s not an issue of power so much as assumption of such, this article is pretty much unnecessary.

[–] starik@lemmy.today 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Selectively leaving out 50k-100k income, aka the middle class. Hmm…

[–] Sharkticon@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 week ago

Its NYC I'm pretty sure 100k is middle class there. Lower middle class.

What do you mean it’s over?! We are just getting started

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

saturation can certainly look that way

[–] jenings@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

My algo served me a video recently about how he’s the lefts trump and it makes sense.

People went from not taking him seriously to establishment quickly trying to take him out while the populace loves him while remaining popular with his base

To top it off it seems unlikely he’s a serial child rapist who will take every single opportunity to make a buck
