Honestly just reminds me of this.
Comic Strips
Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.
Rules
-
π Be Nice!
- Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
-
ποΈ Community Standards
- Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
- Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
- Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
- Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
-
𧬠Keep it Real
- Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
-
π½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due
- Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
- Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
-
π Post Formatting
- Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
- Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
- When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
β Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
β Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
-
π¬ Post Frequency/SPAM
- Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 π) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 π) will be removed.
-
π΄ββ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)
- Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
- Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
-
πΏ Moderation
- We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
- When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists
The following artists are banned from the community.
- Jago
- Stonetoss
- GPrime85
It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.
Web Accessibility
Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.
When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:
Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

This made me really sad.
Have you considered wearing a big hat?
Don't be Tom is self-absorbed.
Advertisers unironically believe this is how we think
I get a lot of ads for a workout app that guarantees that my ex will come back if I do their pelvic exercises.
I'd rather if she stays away though.
"Do our exercises or your ex WILL come back. He hasn't gotten hotter. He HAS gotten crazier."
I have met multiple people who I have witnessed look at an ad on tiktok and immediately tell me "we need to do x" to which I ask "did you just get an ad for that?" and they say yes.
advertisement works, and really well
seriously if you have doom scroller friends and they pull a "lets checkout this thing" on you as they're doom scrolling, chances are they just saw an ad for it
Ads aren't mind control though. Usually they are just triggers for an already existing desire. Unfortunately, a lot of people suffer from rampant consumerism, and want to buy anything and everything.
No, advertisers know how to manipulate your train of thought to start thinking that way. You know how they make sure the same ads (or very similar ones with the same taglines) are seen innumerable times? That's not only because they're trying to be the first brand you think of when you want something in that vein, but because they're taking advantage is the fact most people who are without prior knowledge otherwise (which is why they're so big on targeting the young) will start to believe what the advertisers are saying is actually true β without proof β if they hear it enough.
Humans aren't naturally very prone to critically thinking things through β our brains are still those of animals who operate on instinct & preconceived notions, which the advertisers are trying to program us with.
I highly recommend The Century of the Self by Adam Curtis. I feel it should be required viewing for anyone above the age of 15 so that they may be better mentally equipped in this world. It is a four hour look at this very topic of manipulation for the purpose of advertising and propaganda. Please do take the time to watch and share this information with others.

Agree about it being required viewing (and some reading):
Now, forearmed with the knowledge that the human brain can be gamed, and how to defend against it, people have a choice to spread the word and make no moneys, or walk around gaming other people's brains and make a lot of moneys, you realize a lot of people chose the latter path years and years ago, and that's why we're at where we're at today.
Yeah, and the end result is someone thinking they'll be more attractive, more intelligent, more desirable, more whatever, if they only bought the advertised product.
They believe there's a correct combination of light and sound waves that, when exposed to, will make us abandon our logical reasoning and supplant it with their message.
The idea that my logical reasoning can be overridden by a talking box with a message from an ivory tower is, on its face, offensive and ridiculous. But also somehow perfectly normal and accepted to most people.
Hence the desire for gutting education, especially critical thought. Politicians love advertising.
theyβre taking advantage of the fact most people who are without prior knowledge otherwise (which is why theyβre so big on targeting the young) will start to believe what the advertisers are saying is actually true β without proof β if they hear it enough.
Head on, apply directly to the forehead!

Aww, I miss being totally spun with my friends at like 3 am all shouting along with that commercial. Sweet memories
Todd thinks like that
"if you buy Skyrim for the fourteenth time she'll surely take you back"
-Todd Howard probably
If he's dumb enough to believe that dumb shit, no wonder she left him
Not all trump voters are Thomas, but every Thomas is a trump voter
Who is Thomas? Do you mean Todd?
Auto spell correct, thanks. Did mean todd. Funny coincidence that artist's name was actually thomas though
probably referring to the artist (bottom right)
can't ever take it off
Oh beans. Cursed hat :/
Letβs have a moment of silence for Todd.
I thought this guys pants were on the floor at first lol
It would explain the ex-wife's desire for a divorce if he dropped trou every time he saw a hat.
Advertising creates this thought process and it happens in all of us without realizing it.
such a Todd thing to do.
