my sad ass when i finally find a great dvd rip then i read "upscaled with ai" WHY WOULD YOU RUIN 480/576 PERFECTION?

[–] OnyxRex@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 21 hours ago

Do they still put the latest releases in a .exe file?

Good thing my Linux system doesn't know what a ".exe" is!

[–] Honytawk@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 8 hours ago

It sure as hell knows what malware is though.

Be glad Linux isn't more popular, or it would face more attacks.

Private trackers or good (paid) Usenet indexers are two solutions for *arr tools specifically. If you're manually adding files then just get them from trusted uploaders, manually check the upload before getting it.

I have both and indeed never get a .exe file. The only bad files I get are the French dubbed and subbed while it doesn't say in the title. I did blacklist a few but once in a while another French version gets through the defenses. God damn French people. Often the English audio is included too, but not a single sub I can find on opensubtitles fits the video stream and I like to watch with English subs.

I switched auto search to my private tracker only, manually I include lime as well. I prefer seeding publicly, some of my torrents have a 1:1k ratio

[–] TigerAce@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 7 hours ago

I don't do torrents, only usenet.

[–] cantstopthesignal@sh.itjust.works 1 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

The French are famous for their privateering and piratry.

[–] TigerAce@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 7 hours ago

They are also known for assuming everyone speaks French. Just mark it as FR or French and all is fine. No marking what so ever makes loads of non-French speakers downloading the files for nothing. It's just pure French asshole behavior.

But it says it's (safe punjabi no virus)

I got a .exe for the first time in my life last week. There was a webrip of Odyssey that was on the pirate bay but yeah it was .exe. i did have good luck with that before though because I got a webrip of Project Hail Mary when it was still in theatres.

[–] dry_water@programming.dev 1 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Webrip while in theatres? 😵‍💫😵‍💫

[–] sudoMakeUser@sh.itjust.works 2 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

It was out on streaming in Russia by then, I'm assuming because it had baked in Russian subtitles for onscreen written words. Other than that the audio and video was rip quality and it was still in theatres in North America so I didn't ask too many questions.

[–] dry_water@programming.dev 2 points 11 hours ago

I see, varies by region.. didn't know that.

[–] 9488fcea02a9@sh.itjust.works 20 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Filmed on a cell phone in 4k counts..... right????

[–] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'll take it. Cam rips are kind of a special treasure of their own

[–] nixfreak@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Mmm old school telecines nit the crap they put out now.

[–] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I was meaning for like the unprompted movie theater interactions that happen to people who record but that sounds like a better process for fidelity. You just miss all the people

[–] Souvenir@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

If you're feeling lonely, I'll come over to your house and sneeze down your neck while you're watching Marvel Superheroes 12.

[–] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 3 points 19 hours ago

Is this Netflix and Chill?

[–] Kobii@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 1 day ago

A flip phone...

[–] MiRRoRMaN@ani.social 5 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Personally I'm hoping for some type of piracy technology that will even let us download the movies before they where even made. How? I don't know, nor do I care how its done, just create this tech already. We need it.

[–] cupcakezealot@piefed.blahaj.zone 3 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

if mel brooks can put spaceballs on instant cassette surely someone can find a way to make torrents before the movies finished

[–] MiRRoRMaN@ani.social 2 points 9 hours ago

"WHEN WILL IT BE NOW?"

I remember that Wolverine origin movie back in the day, it was out before the final effects where even put in. Right off the cutting room board.

[–] OozingPositron@feddit.cl 2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

This also happened with the Minecraft movie, although I think it leaked at the same time as the theatrical release.

[–] Honytawk@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 8 hours ago

Nah, the first version didn't have its CGI finished, so every character had a halo.

Or so I've heard ...

[–] MiRRoRMaN@ani.social 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I love that feeling, its all over the news that something is just out and you already have it in the palm of your hand. I've had that several times in life, first time I had that happen was with the game "Iron Hand" on the Commodore 64 not a lot of people remember that game because I don't think it was ever even published officially. Then later in life I had Windows XP on a CD a few days before its official release, and later with Wolverine which was awesome it still even had the notes on the screen one scene i remember it said "Nails grow" as Victor touches the glass of a window.

People don't realize the absolutely awesome times people can have as a pirate. Its a very jolly, fun, exciting life. I been sailing the high seas since 1988 and it has been a great old time.

[–] RheumatoidArthritis@mander.xyz 3 points 1 day ago (2 children)

The leak was named longhorn iirc, is that the one?

[–] bamboo@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 day ago

Longhorn was Windows Vista. I remember downloading what I thought was Longhorn before Vista's release but it was just a heavily skinned version of Windows XP.

[–] MiRRoRMaN@ani.social 1 points 1 day ago

My bad, it was 35 days before the official launch. Windows Longhorn was what we called AIDS Vista back in the day, it came after XP. I never used Vista myself, I went from C64 to Amiga to Win 95, to Win 98 SE, to XP, to 7 and now 10.

[–] MiRRoRMaN@ani.social 2 points 1 day ago

thank you! I really needed this. what took this tech so long?

[–] bountygiver@lemmy.ml 12 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Look, even if the chance of a leak is minuscule, it's still not 0%

[–] FatVegan@leminal.space 3 points 9 hours ago

And it's only 45mb. Nice

[–] unmagical@lemmy.ml 12 points 1 day ago

Last movie I saw in theaters I stopped at the bathroom and there was a guy walking out carrying a cup holder phone mount. Homie was doing the Lord's work.

[–] lath@piefed.social 5 points 1 day ago

Everyone has something we're good at, but most of the time we don't consider it worthy of note.
