Stupid child developers... why aren't they coming up with new good ideas!

Also totally nothing to do with people getting terrified of letting their kids on there as, they do more to get in the way of police stings arresting child predators, and do nothing to combat them themselves.

We need to make roblox but good. Kids deserve better than being groomed by Republican state representitives when they're just trying to play a game

[–] RiQuY@lemmy.zip 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

People will hate me for saying this but "Roblox but good" already exists, it's called Fortnite Creative.

[–] motruck@lemmy.zip 1 points 6 days ago (3 children)

Open source platform Roblox.

[–] bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de 4 points 6 days ago

Luanti could be that. But it's not very kid friendly. At least not yet.

Yeah, even before it was released there were so many kids are still messing around with Garry's Mod. New generations of kids playing with 20-year-old software.

Did they actually make s&box open source? Because when I tried building the engine from github after the Steam launch it wasn't working anymore and forums were saying it required a purchase.

Is this good for children to play? Having a really hard time keeping our daughter from Roblox. A good alternative could go miles.

Right now the developers aren't policing Slop so only if you're okay with that. Also, it's not free.

It’s the same kind of game mode browser as Roblox. It’s not that big yet but it’s from the people who made Garry’s mod so i bet it’ll stick around long enough to reach a critical mass of different games to play and developers working on new ones. I hope it takes off because it’s basically the steam version of Roblox or Fortnite.

As a dev or asset maker you can make commission on the game modes/ items/ art you upload to the workshop based on how much other people use it.

The monetary aspect wouldn't really pan out, if it's open source and every transaction is P2P instead of through a verifiable centralized third party then it's just going to get inundated with (more) scams.

[–] awesomesauce309@midwest.social 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

You post two comments. One a complaint that the game I suggest isn’t fully FOSS, and another saying the business model wouldn’t work if it was FOSS. It’s almost like I suggested the closest you can get.

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

My other comment was a question and apparently your answer is that you were misled and the game is not open source.

By acknowledging the problems we face to create a solution we help better our ability to make that solution a reality.

[–] awesomesauce309@midwest.social 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I never believed it was open source. I believed it was as close as you could get in a live service game with any chance of survival. The suggestions above are Fortnite and Roblox. I think we can all say s&box is a huge leap in the right direction comparatively.

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 1 points 6 days ago

I just have an inherent distrust of sloppers, Windows exclusive developers, and people who either lie or are incompetent on the topic of actually being open source. Apparently they are still claiming to be open source from what I see, so I'll look more into if that's true or not.

A company losing a fuck load of money because its users aren’t making interesting games with their product, sounds like a massively stupid product right out of the gate lmao.

[–] smeg@feddit.uk 17 points 6 days ago (1 children)

It's not that the company is losing money, it's just what investors think their company is worth is now less

The company also reported that ‘bookings’, a key measure of player spending, grew by just 8% year over year after previously posting much stronger growth

This is the most relevant thing the article mentions; they're still making money, more money than they did last year

Financial news is weird, it all just seems like random guesswork and made up numbers

[–] LurkingLuddite@piefed.social 2 points 6 days ago

That's exactly what it is.

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 4 points 6 days ago

This is a really interesting topic because apparently all of the hit games produced on Roblox were just clones of hit games on steam in general.

[–] AceFuzzLord@lemmy.zip 11 points 6 days ago

You mean the company that profits off of ignoring groomers and pedos while also having a CEO that insists dating os a necessary edition has lost profit after being exposed for being evil? Parents are worried their kids may be being groomed so they refuse to let their kids on the platform and you are blaming the creators instead of yourselves?

Nope, no surprise there.

[–] Assassassin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Call me crazy, but I don't think a single piece of media should be valued at $70b in the first place. It's a video game.

[–] brainwashed@feddit.org 1 points 4 days ago

I thought it was like tinder for Predators?

[–] germanatlas@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 6 days ago

Oh no won’t anybody think about the poor Roblox corporation, their child labor sweatshop isn’t sweating enough…

[–] CaptMurica@beehaw.org 4 points 6 days ago

Totally scummy company providing a platform for sex traffickers.

[–] DieserTypMatthias@lemmy.ml 2 points 6 days ago

The pedo hub doesn't have any good games? Who would've thought.

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 2 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

This implies one of three things:

  1. Roblox doesn't have the same level of attraction of young children anymore.

  2. The share value was being heavily inflated by one or more entities and the time has come to dump.

  3. The bad economy is finally hitting Mom's Credit Card.

You are forgetting number 4 which is already impacting the industry: people preferring to watch TikTok instead of playing games
