People will hate me for saying this but "Roblox but good" already exists, it's called Fortnite Creative.

Luanti could be that. But it's not very kid friendly. At least not yet.

Yeah, even before it was released there were so many kids are still messing around with Garry's Mod. New generations of kids playing with 20-year-old software.

Is this good for children to play? Having a really hard time keeping our daughter from Roblox. A good alternative could go miles.

Right now the developers aren't policing Slop so only if you're okay with that. Also, it's not free.

It’s the same kind of game mode browser as Roblox. It’s not that big yet but it’s from the people who made Garry’s mod so i bet it’ll stick around long enough to reach a critical mass of different games to play and developers working on new ones. I hope it takes off because it’s basically the steam version of Roblox or Fortnite.

As a dev or asset maker you can make commission on the game modes/ items/ art you upload to the workshop based on how much other people use it.

Did they actually make s&box open source? Because when I tried building the engine from github after the Steam launch it wasn't working anymore and forums were saying it required a purchase.

The monetary aspect wouldn't really pan out, if it's open source and every transaction is P2P instead of through a verifiable centralized third party then it's just going to get inundated with (more) scams.

You post two comments. One a complaint that the game I suggest isn’t fully FOSS, and another saying the business model wouldn’t work if it was FOSS. It’s almost like I suggested the closest you can get.

My other comment was a question and apparently your answer is that you were misled and the game is not open source.

By acknowledging the problems we face to create a solution we help better our ability to make that solution a reality.

I never believed it was open source. I believed it was as close as you could get in a live service game with any chance of survival. The suggestions above are Fortnite and Roblox. I think we can all say s&box is a huge leap in the right direction comparatively.

I just have an inherent distrust of sloppers, Windows exclusive developers, and people who either lie or are incompetent on the topic of actually being open source. Apparently they are still claiming to be open source from what I see, so I'll look more into if that's true or not.
