I found it funny because the human was trying to battle the Orc and win, and ended up romancing him into peace instead. In the star trek universe this could be Riker and a Klingon female and it's still funny to me. Didn't catch the homophobic vibe others got. For me it's the "ew Orcs are ugly" angle that's a bit cringe

For context: This comic is based on the 'Push an orc off the cliff but crit fail' joke.
Situations like this forcing crazy improvs are what make D&D one of the most entertaining games ever made.

More seriously, though: If it's only funny because it features two persons of the same sex, it's homophobic.
Imagine the shtick with a man and a woman : it's not as fun or not even fun? Yeah, that's because the whole point is the fact that it's happening between two males. Homophobia IS the point, and it's not because the comic features diverse people that it's not making an homophobic point.
Whoever the author is, they're forgiven because it was funny, but I encourage them to question their work.
Huh? Ill be honest, the sex of either character never crossed my mind. The comic doesnt even draw attention to it. I found it funny because his goal, and overall campaign mission, was to kill the orc but fumbled their way into marrying them instead. Its classic situational humor that comes out of role playing games.

Hmm I'm mixed on this, you could see it as homophobia, but just the hero falling in love with the BBEG in itself could cause the exact same comic, no? In which case making either a woman could have misogynistic implications instead.
Without knowing the author I like to think they're making the "hero seduces BBEG" joke, just more inclusive because it's gay now.
I thought it was cute. He wasn't mad about the gay. He was mad about the lack of murder.
To me, the parents' reaction confirms the homophobic bias, especially the father's reaction. They could just have said something comical like "finally, he's bringing somebody home", "finally, he's out of the closet", "I'm so happy he's happy" etc, and embrace the comically gay situation, allowing the people laughing about the gay situation to laugh, and the gay audience to witness a "happy ending" that doesn't degrade the comical nature of it all. The big bad enemy could also have been a Beholder or a Lich, etc. But no. It's an orc stud, because the fact that it's an orc stud is the point.
I can see that reading, but I think the joke would work the same with him bringing home any threatening partner. If it was an orc lady, the dialogue could be the same.

I (and the others in this thread) interpreted the parents‘ negative reaction as coming from their son bringing home the „Scourge of the North“ rather than disappointment in his sexuality. The mother says „Smile so he doesn’t kill us“ because he’s evil, not because he’s gay.

Or you know, just defaultism. If the player is hetero, by default his character is hetero. He did not seem offended by the route it took, just embarassed (and it's not said per se if because of gay, because of success at failing or both).
Hell, looking at the full-color-spectrum cast I am hella more prone to believing it's mix of defaultism and simple laughing at friend stumbling xD
Yeah, I see this reading as well, but I stand by my point. The baddie could have been the Kraken, a Beholder, a Lich. Still, the comical situation relies on the fact that it's an orc stud.
Them both being men isn't what makes this funny. The player being forced to seduce someone they don't find attractive is what's funny. This has been a trope forever. There's, like, three different layers of the exact same conflict/joke in Shrek, none of which include same-sex couples (unless you think Shrek and Donkey are more than just roommates).
The real offense here is a DM stripping agency from their player for a laugh. The player is clearly not being a good sport about it, and this type of behavior can feel like bullying and absolutely wreck a playgroup.
I'm interpreting the guy bringing his new hubby home as the player absolutely embracing the new turn of events.

Actually, it's also funny. If the players genuinely hated the enemy and consecutive crit fails ended in romance, I'd be laughing regardless of romance. Same of the enemy was a machine. It doesn't matter.
Tell me how this wouldn't work if the orc was a woman. If you only find it funny because "ew dudes", maybe that's you talking and not the comic... Because I could see this working just as well with either one being the opposite sex.
We'd then just have to deal with people like you calling it gross because a dude forced himself on a woman or something.
