News and Discussions about Reddit

Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules

Rule 1- No brigading.

**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **

YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.

Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.

**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.

That picture on the side looks like it represents the least real place on the internet

[–] abbadon420@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 month ago

However, it IS representative of the content on the platform.

[–] ARandomPerson@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Oddly looks like an off brand LittleBigPlanet Sackboy Spinoff

[–] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 month ago

Slop will tend to mimic like that.

[–] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 24 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Most real? Lol its all bots.

[–] DarkCloud@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Someone has to upvote and comment on all the AI generated videos!

[–] ulkesh@piefed.social 20 points 1 month ago (2 children)

So they're shooting themselves in the foot. Good. I deleted my 15-year account back in 2023 after that greedy piece of shit, spez, screwed over the app devs. Only reason I ever visit reddit now is if it happens to be the end result of a google search. If they require me to log in to see it, then they will no longer get my traffic. And I suspect that will be the case for quite a lot of people.

[–] BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Yeah, it's like reddit ate the forums then ai ate the rest.

[–] inmate_p01135809@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Same. Had my account since Digg v4, deleted my posted comments and account after 3rd-party apps were effectively killed off. I lurked, but it looks like that is over now. I won't even get to see the existing old information on the site from searches, but oh well....

That’s how I ended up on lemmy, but I’ve seen more new memes in the past week than I’d probably seen all month on reddit.

Welcome!

If you want to see less of something, don't hesitate to block a community.

But I mostly use the Subscribed feed, not All

[–] Widdershins@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

My subscribed feed is nothing but Norm Macdonald jokes and Garfield comics. There is still room for Jughead comics but the community isn't here yet.

[–] PP_BOY_@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Hej! (That's how we say hello here in Sweden)

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 month ago

I hope even more come

[–] Bu11ish@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

That's why I'm here too. Unfortunately I've seen the same amount of ragebait on the front page as I see on reddit.

[–] solidheron@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Yeah I seen that coming when I tried to make a reddit to lemmy Cross posting app. Reddit made a system where you can download a video but not get the audio. Also their embedded videos tend to require that you go to reddit.

Reddit is getting enshitified

[–] nullspace@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

In retrospect, getting banned did me a favor.

[–] solidheron@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago

Lol nice. I had withdrawals when I got banned. I kinda like arguing with the random right wingers on reddit

[–] DoucheBagMcSwag@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

is enshtifiied

There's no more past tense. The API apocalypse was the end

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Ugh goddammit. I still check a handful of long running CW post chains from some writers/users whose stories I’ve become invested in.. but I guess I’m done with that now :(

[–] ctry21@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Redlib is good as a front-end for reddit without needing to sign in, I use the catsarch instance normally but there's a few public instances or you can self-host it.

Ooh, good protip! I’ll have to check that out.

[–] Auster@thebrainbin.org 6 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Old.reddit.com still seems to be going, at least for a while longer. Same for old.reddit.com's RSS.

[–] steelplatedmech@piefed.ca 11 points 1 month ago

old.reddit is region based so it'll eventually get phased out from working for everyone.

Like I found that with VPN Sweden is still one place where old.reddit still works without login. But, others prompt for login to use old.reddit.

But, I just moved to using redlib instance if reddit is needed now due to not wanting to login to an account.

[–] agit68@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Old reddit is now forcing an account.

[–] Auster@thebrainbin.org 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Seems to be rolling in waves, going by other comments.

[–] Depress_Mode@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Old.reddit just started requiring an account recently, too

[–] finallymadeanaccount@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Why force account creation if their AI just bans people en masse anyway? Has their rabid banning affected their numbers?

[–] spacegoat@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

They're manipulating their numbers so that they can present fraudulent user counts to investors

[–] 1egg4u@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (2 children)

If any more people get caught up in their dipshit automod filters bugging out like I did it looks like it's curtains for us. Ive been lurking but I guess this is my cue to actually be active on Lemmy now.

What benefit? It keeps banning accounts for no reason. It seems like new users have almost no entry

[–] bartleby1@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

you can just use safereddit.com instead

[–] Scrollone@feddit.it 3 points 1 month ago

Or you could just stop using that shitty website altogether
