Some kind of punishment at least would be nice

I like when they just get away with it and have statues built in their honour and then 80 years later people are like “wait…”

The statues sre there to remind you to punish them. "I'm busy right now but this guy needs to be tried for war crimes, here's what he looks like"

Multiple millions of dollars in 1945 USD along with a complete name and identity change and essentially a free existence for my family for their entire lives separate from the the sheer amount of cash given.

I get my inspiration from the freest country on Earth, fighters for Righteous Christian Democracy, the second most moral people in the history of the world, the sole arbiters of what is right and wrong in reality, and the defacto leaders of the free world who would never allow a villain to go unpunished.

The punishment for war crimes is money, land, and the full weight of the most expensive army in world history protecting you from your victims.

Nazis getting executed by an incompetent executioner was good

[–] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

"Incompetent"

I think that guy might have been one of the only people at Nuremberg who understood the damn assignment

[–] Nonconfrontational@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

He literally had never hanged someone before lol.

[–] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Guess he was a natural pro 👍

[–] Nonconfrontational@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 days ago

Yeah, no complaints here. Just wish they hanged the higher up Nazis instead of putting them in charge of NATO.

Death. I don't really care how it's done, I just want to solve the problem.

[–] ferric_carcinization@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I think that the "how" of a death penalty is pretty important. For some other war criminal, I would wish for something like "death by acid". But for me, I'm pretty sure that I'll be sentenced to "death by old age" like so many others before me.

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

would wish for something like "death by acid".

Why? What would you gain?

[–] ferric_carcinization@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Do I need a reason to wish a horrible end upon someone? especially to a fellow war criminal?

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, you do actually. I think if you're spending your time thinking about the myriad ways you can horribly kill someone instead of thinking about how to unfuck what they've done then your time isn't being spent valuably.

I'm not arguing that there aren't people who should be punished with death. I can think of plenty. Why waste time making it a spectacle? Are we just going back to being Romans?

This kind of thinking is rotten and pointless. You don't make a spectacle out of killing cancer, you just kill it as quickly as possible before it can do more damage. I don't care how it's done.

SeriousAh, you were serious? This is the shitty ask lemmy community, so I assumed that no one would take things posted here seriously.

Of course, in reality, I don't wish acid upon others. Though I'm a bit unsure about my feelings on capital punishment, I think that if carried out, it should be as painless & private as possible. I also think that if used as punishnent, the minimum required offence for capital punishment should be very high, even higher than a few murders.

What do you mean "back to being Romans"? Cruel & unusual executions have been carried out across the ages, even in modern times. Instead of looking at the past, when humanity's limits were low, look at the future, the death penalties of tomorrow!

For example, why hang someone or kill them with a thousand cuts, when you could instead submerge them in acid or infect them with a flesh-eating bacteria? Think of the possibilities!

I'm enjoying my exile. So far preferable to the deaths.

I finally got that log cabin in the woods i've always wanted

That's not a punishment for many republicans

I prefer when they let me off with a warning
