No one is more responsible for this mess than this guy.

Rupert Murdoch.

The largest media mogul in the English speaking world. He owns Fox News. He owns The UK Sun. He owns the New York Post. He owns The Wall Street Journal. He owns 90% of the Australian press.

He urged the British people to support Brexit:

(She never said of this)

Rupert Murdoch has used his immense influence to spread climate change denial. Fox News has denied climate change for decades. It's pure disinformation.

From January through June 2019, Fox News Network programs mentioned climate change or global warming 391 times, which amounts to roughly 65 mentions per month.

Of the 247 segments, 212 or 86% were dismissive of the climate crisis, cast warming and its consequences in doubt or employed fear mongering when discussing climate solutions.

https://www.citizen.org/news/climate-change-denial-dominates-86-of-fox-news-climate-segments/

According to a recent study, Republicans trust Fox News than any other news source:

https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2025/07/17/6-facts-about-fox-news/

Republicans make up half the United States. They trust Fox News more than any other media organization. Let that sink in.

The Wall Street Journal is also a major problem.

I mean look at this shit:

There's no compelling scientific argument for drastic action to 'decarbonize' the world's economy.

Climate Science is not settled

https://www.wsj.com/articles/climate-science-is-not-settled-1411143565

Global warming doesn't matter. Contrary to the latest news, the evidence that global warming will have serious effects is thin.

The Climate-Change Religion

President Obama wrote in his proclamation for Earth Day on Wednesday. “As a Nation, we must act before it is too late.”

Obama and his supporters are wrong. There is no reason to act.

https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-climate-change-religion-1429832149

No, climate change has not caused an increase in the frequency or intensity of floods, droughts, hurricanes and tornadoes. This is a false claim.

https://www.wsj.com/articles/notable-quotable-climate-change-and-war-1461021491

What is the origin of the false belief — constantly repeated — that almost all scientists agree about global warming?

There is actually no scientific consensus on global warming

https://www.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424052702303480304579578462813553136

The Guardian, The New York Times or The Financial Times would never publish such garbage. But the Wall Street Journal has been publishing trash like this for decades.

Rupert Murdoch is famous in Australia because he believes climate change is a wonderful thing. All his medias are instructed to support climate-denial:

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2020/1/24/how-murdochracy-controls-the-climate-debate-in-australia

  • 16 scientists wrote a letter to the Wall Street Journal claiming climate change is fake. Many of these scientists are linked to the oil industry.

  • 255 respected scientists wrote an open letter to the Wall Street Journal saying climate change is real and denouncing disinformation.

You know what scares me the most? The Wall Street Journal is the favorite newspaper of high-income americans. It's the one newspaper that american CEOs trust.

Journalists working for the Wall Street Journal aren't stupid.

They perfectly know what's going on. Their journalism earns the paper credibility. That credibility is weaponized by Murdoch to spread his propaganda.

A few years ago, hundreds of Wall Street Journal journalists wrote a letter to Publisher Almar Latour, saying their newspaper is used to spread disinformation:

https://int.nyt.com/data/documenttools/letter-from-wsj-news-staff-to-publisher-almar-latour/ea78fefb574b76a6/full.pdf

They were told to fuck off if they don't want to be fired. Anyone subscribing to the WSJ is part of the problem.

Rupert Murdoch has done a staggering amount of damage. And people still "trust" his garbage media. The New York Post is one of the most visited website in the US.

it was because of this fuck that we got stuck with an inferior NBN in Australia. We could have had a MINIMUM of 1Gbps for almost EVERYONE, but this fucker didn't want his fuckwit foxtel to have competition, so he decided (let's face it, HE decided) that his puppets turnballs was to gut the NBN, and now we're stuck with a multibillion dollar failure.

Fuck the murdochs so fucking hard. I have an (ir)rational hatred of them. WE COULD HAVE HAD 1Gbps!

[–] FlyingCircus@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

And yet, Murdoch is simply a symptom of the real disease, capitalism. Without him, we would still be in the same situation, because capitalism requires endless growth and both incentivizes and requires greed and individualistic behavior from those with power.

A global socialist revolution is the only thing that can save our species and the biosphere.

[–] Danquebec@sh.itjust.works 11 points 15 hours ago

This is an incredible comment. With a little work it would make a fine article to publish online.

[–] jtrek@startrek.website 10 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

We know he's a monster and yet we do nothing to stop him. The laws are powerless. Simply shooting him is seen as gauche.

[–] D_C@sh.itjust.works 5 points 13 hours ago

I don't mind being seen as gauche.
The problem is I live thousands of miles away and have no guns.

Plus it isn't just Murdoch. Shooting him is a good start, yes. But just about every large corporation CEO, and very billionaire etc, and most world leaders, and most politicians also need to be 'taken out' for anything to really start changing.
(Which I'm fine with btw. Shoot away, Luigi)

Don’t worry. Trump will ban weather reports.

[–] diabetic_porcupine@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

The thing every mildly intelligent person has been warning us about for 75 years is happening exactly the way they warned us about for 75 years.

[–] Whats_your_reasoning@lemmy.world 9 points 17 hours ago

If not worse. But the worse projections made people sadder, so they were ignored even harder.

Too bad, because we are well passed the "best case scenario." The projections of the past will seem mild compared to reality.

I hope the data centers get overheated

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 6 points 13 hours ago

A well thrown Molotov cocktail will guarantee it.

[–] Aceofspades@lemmy.ca 13 points 18 hours ago

We were already in planet cooking conditions before this push for AI in everything. I think we are doomed as a species. Which oddly enough is what the elites want.

[–] krigo666@lemmy.world 10 points 18 hours ago

No shit, Sherlock... That has been said for over 40 years now, but now that can't be denied you publicise it? You are not a news agency, you're a propaganda agency.

[–] Tyrq@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 15 hours ago

The sooner we get rid of these monsters, the better off everyone will be

[–] WanderingThoughts@europe.pub 2 points 15 hours ago

That's what it means even people cry "the weather always change, you just have to adapt." Adaption means things you like get cancelled.

[–] LadyButterfly@reddthat.com 1 points 13 hours ago

This is wrong I know because they used to grow grapes in Britain and i saw a meme saying it's not true so that proves it /s

[–] WhoIzDisIz@lemmy.today 2 points 19 hours ago

Which is probably why the climate effects will be so extreme as nature does its thing in an attempt to rebalance the environment.
