Half the time, Fox News is speaking to Boomers and older gen-X, all of whom grew up and/or lived under the shadow of thermonuclear war and the looming threat of "Communism" (USSR). Jimmy Carter asked the nation to turn down thermostats ~50 years ago, and these people are still freaking out about it.
Carter was promptly voted out of office and replaced with Ronald Reagan. We all know how that went.
It might have had something to do with Carter putting solar panels on the White House roof as well. Or the backroom deal that Reagan's people made with the Khomeini regime to keep the American hostages in captivity until after the election. Who knows.
