President Donald Trump on Friday seized on the electoral success of several democratic socialist candidates to ramp up his attacks on the Democratic Party, claiming it was being taken over by “godless Communists” who pose an existential threat to the nation.

The heated rhetoric marked the latest bid by Trump to portray Democrats as political extremists ahead of November’s midterms — even though portrayals of even the party’s most liberal candidates as “communists” are far from reality.

“These are hard core, godless Communists,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post earlier on Friday, an accusation he repeated during remarks to a gathering of social conservatives. “This is the Greatest Threat to our Country since its Founding 250 years ago!”

We're finally starting to get the left we deserve instead of the one pulled center by party giving cover to rapists, pedophiles, spousal abusers and murderers.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 10 points 1 week ago (2 children)

In a country where a huge amount of people thought Biden was a communist a party like that might go over like a lead balloon.

[–] ReptilianCleric@lemmy.zip 19 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Not if they successfully rebrand communism. People that are triggered by that word don't have any clue it's definition

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 8 points 1 week ago (2 children)

They’ve been poisoning that well longer than America has been around.

[–] ReptilianCleric@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 week ago

Well, fuck. I can't argue that. Still, though, I applaud those still putting up a fight

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[–] halcyoncmdr@piefed.social 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Yeah but now Americans are actually directly being affected by the fascist idiots that ripped the mask off early.

At this point a decent number of them are starting to wonder if the opposite side won't be as bad. And that's all that's necessary to start righting the ship, if people are actually willing to step up and not just let the same octogenarian power brokers keep running everything.

We went from Trump being elected a second time, to a dozen Democratic Socialists being elected and districts flipping 30+ points in just 2 years.

Eventually people start to wonder why the rain is yellow and tastes like piss.

[–] usernametbd@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 week ago

The right has always called anything that went against their agenda communism. The word is meaningless by their context. We can’t change how they distort the truth. It’s their only game plan. We can only show them that what we’re doing helps the most people regardless of how they mischaracterize it. People are sick of platitudes they want to see results.

Sounds a lot better to me than 'christian capitalists' .

[–] WhatAmLemmy@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Christian capitalists? You mean the people who worship the antichrist pedo-fuhrer, who is the embodiment of the seven deadly sins?

Well, I happen to like the godless communist ones. I'm cool with the godded communists, too, tbh.

[–] fizzle@quokk.au 9 points 1 week ago

Honestly even at face value a "godless communist" sounds pretty great right now.

I acknowledge that communism is not without its problems, but the US can afford to head in that direction for a few years.

Man I wish Democrats were as cool as Trump makes them sound

[–] Anti_Iridium@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

I wish democrats were actually godless communist.

[–] TheDemonBuer@lemmy.world 17 points 1 week ago (3 children)

“They will close your churches in this country. They go communist, and they’re trying to. They will kill your people, and that’s what they’re about. They want to end religion,” he said.

Nothing scares Americans like the threat of the godless, freedom hating communists coming to burn down your church and kill your family. It's effective. They wouldn't keep doing it if it didn't work.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

AFAICT, it's the xtians that are closing down churches, due to lack of interest.

The nones are ~30%. Adherents to xtianity are way down. It's simple numbers not really any Grand Liberal Conspiracy, FFS.

Any god that favors Trump, is a shitty one that only deserves rejection.

[–] Spacehooks@reddthat.com 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Let's see he's got Nurgle, Tzeentch, khorne, slaanesh. So yeah

[–] ProfThadBach@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Mostly Nurgle and Slannesh. Those fucking Mar-A-Lago faces and hollow Ozempic eyes are Druchii as fuck.

[–] Bakkoda@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago

Guy who rapes and bombs kids calls someone godless.

Average American Christian tbh

[–] fox2263@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago

Remember that time he called mamdani and evil communist terrorist Muslim jihadist and the worst thing that can happen to New York. Then he won, met Trump and then Trump said he’ll be great for New York and is a nice guy.

Almost like the guy has no actual morals or ideals or anything really. And is in fact just evil himself.

[–] cattywampas@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

McCarthyism, so hot right now!

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

"JD" "Vance" is trying to bring back Nixon, too. The conservatives are nothing if not big fans of the goldie oldies.

[–] usernametbd@lemmy.zip 11 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Funny how the right always associates Christians with capitalism. Capitalism being a system that relies on hurting and exploiting one group to enrich another. Literally what their greatest teacher Christ preached against. While Communism - a system that puts emphasis on taking care of all people over personal wealth/power is always spoke of as godless.

[–] Murse@slrpnk.net 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Literally what their greatest ~~teacher ~~

Mascot. Although according to their mythology, he did spend a great deal of effort on teaching, his would-be students refused to learn - a trait true of Christians to this day.

They love iconography of the guy though! ...no not that iconography - can we make him more white? Perfect. That iconography.

[–] usernametbd@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

I don’t believe in god, but he was a philosopher and teacher objectively (if he did indeed exist). Honestly agree with a lot of what he preached regardless of the fairytale surrounding it.

As for Christians, nothing surprising about people not living up to ideology all the time. What gets me is the Christian right’s complete hypocrisy in how they claim an ideology with such fervor while overtly and unapologetically not following it.

[–] Murse@slrpnk.net 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That's my point though. If I deliver a lecture to a brick wall, even an insightful, logical, factual, beautifully executed lecture, am I a teacher? For one to teach, another must learn. If Christians reject the lessons of their own god, the whole production is just one giant tragedy about a man and his son-self thing fruitlessly pleading with a pile of bricks. Despite their best effort, the bricks did not, do not, and will not learn; actively denying Sky Daddy & Super J the role of 'teacher'.

[–] usernametbd@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 week ago

Christians aren't a monolith. I grew up Christian and some of the best people I know are Christians. They genuinely strive to follow what they believe. Some of the worst people I know are also loudly Christians. No teacher gets through to all their students - if you’ve ever sat in a classroom you know that. As much as I dislike organized religion I’m not going to lump them all together. That’s just another “godless commy” generalization.

It’s an existential threat to him, oligarchy and the billionaire class.

Bring it the fuxk on

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Letting the government do anything good for you and your community, is the Republicans' definition of communism and socialism. According to Republicans in Congress and the Trump admin and the Supreme Court, the role of the federal government to subsidize billionaires and trillionaires, undertake vanity DC projects that are utter failures, start pointless wars they can't finish, make everything unaffordable, tax Americans through tariffs, pardon criminals only in exchange for ~~bribes~~ gratuities, and send goon squads to harass immigrants and dissenters.

Under these terms, who wouldn't want communism and socialism?

[–] 100_kg_90_de_belin@feddit.it 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Wasn't Iran the greatest threat to the US since its founding? Or fentanyl? Or immigrants from Mexico? Or trans women in sports? Or paper straws?

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It’s a godless commie Iranian trans woman playing sports snorting fent through a paper straw in Mexico obviously.

Well he got the godless part right

[–] placebo@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 week ago

I live in a country that was occupied by the Soviet Russia, yet people here don’t talk as much about communists as Americans. This obsession is fascinating.

Reporters need to start asking him his favourite Bible verse since he's so devout

[–] madcaesar@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

We can't all be as godly as a 4 time divorced, cheating, criminal child rapist 😢

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 week ago

If they were godless communists they might actually help improve life for ordinary Americans. Unfortunately they're mostly neoliberals, like the Republicans were before they came out as fascist.

[–] MrKoyun@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Hey, that's me!

[–] fodor@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 week ago

Godless commies who are not in the Epstein Files. Unlike Trump, who stars the Epstein Files.

[–] black0ut@pawb.social 3 points 1 week ago

One can only wish. I bet if godless communists were ruling the US, the entire world would be in a better place right now. Or at least there wouldn't be an orange pedophile at the helm of the US, licking a trillionaire's boots and listening to his nazi master.

[–] A404@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 week ago (2 children)

They can't just call anyone they don't like a communist
