Man, i was all in with SNW and Lower Decks. Both provided a fresh take on the franchise and delivered consistently. I'm going to miss them, but i also love a show that ends well.

I was hoping there would be some new blood to keep it going, but every time I look there was no news. Guess it's back to my TNG DVDs...

Let's just say I have strong suspicions that the current political environment may be the real driving force behind what's going on.

It also advocates for a moneyless, classless utopian society without racism and sexism, so pretty much the opposite of what Ellison wants.

Star Trek needs its Luke Wilson to speak the big words to the people.

The article makes no mention of the proposed project helmed by Mariner herself, Tawny Newsome. Of course, the idea was floated some time before the merger was approved, so who knows. It'd be foolish to let her talents go to waste.

Not liking this doom and gloom surrounding the franchise. There's been a lull twice before before and it'll happen again. I should like to think it can return with some interesting ideas and predictably welcomed callbacks.

yeah, this is kind of a weird article. star trek is such a cultural touchstone it's always going to come back eventually. a break is a healthy thing unless you're toei, and frankly going into dormancy right now with paramount's new leadership (conspicuously absent from the article) is a mercy. and in the meantime, looney toons- no shade, it rules- isn't going to displace trek as a tentpole drama series

although speaking of looney tunes, that reminds me of another series paramount now owns https://youtu.be/kHRzuXkVIJE?is=w2jeIBd-DMJ-ZUfj

Thought it was already revealed that wasn’t going ahead. They’re aiming for a clear slate once Kurtzman’s contract expires at the end of the year. It’s considered bad form to lumber the next team with unwanted projects.

Wait, Kurtzman will no longer be in charge of Star Trek? This is the best new I've heard in ages!

[–] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 1 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

Well, his contract is up for renewal in the winter, and all the shows on his slate have been cancelled…

One day, I shall come back. Yes, I shall come back. Until then, there must be no regrets, no tears, no anxieties. Just go forward in all your beliefs and prove to me that I am not mistaken in mine. (Doctor Who, but you get the idea)

Arr, don't think I'll notice.
