Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Great. Can we purge him from reality next?

[–] Cellari@lemmy.world 1 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

That would require the use of a paperclip and creative thinking

[–] Adderbox76@lemmy.ca 1 points 7 hours ago

Sadly, MacGuyver's retired.

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 6 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

Note to self. We need to topple that golden trump statue next. Too many golden calf vibes.

[–] backalleycoyote@lemmy.today 3 points 9 hours ago

Toppling that one isn’t going to be as rewarding as watching other monuments to dictators get torn down. Instead of the satisfactory “clunk” of a ton of metal we’ll just get the “pfft” of value brand gold spray paint and McDonald’s wrappers turned into paper mache. Probably some pilfered state secrets, nuclear codes, and love letters to Jeff in there as well.

Hoist a rope and pull it down like Saddam's.

You ever watch documentaries on ancient Egypt?

There are all these statues and name plates where the faces or names are destroyed. And the narrator always says something like "yeah this guy. Wasn't liked very much ".

And I always thought. It's such a shame that petty people were always destroying art and statues.

But like now.

Now, I get it. And I don't think it was a shame because it's what I want to do too.

It's called Damnatio Memoriae and it's basically trying to remove someone from history.

[–] dvlsg@lemmy.world 4 points 8 hours ago

That would be a sick band name.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Did they need to put up that scaffolding to hold the tarp to cover up the removal?

[–] kbobabob@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 12 hours ago

It wasn't covered initially when they started working. I was watching the live stream. Then some guy in a suit came out and made everyone leave. Then they came back and tarped it.

[–] sundray@lemmus.org 10 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Doing it in the open would have too much meme potential.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 13 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, I'd like an investigation on who made that decision, though, and just why they made it?

They didn't put up a tarp when putting up that skidmark's name on there.

[–] A_norny_mousse@piefed.zip 4 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago) (1 children)

Funny thing: when they put the letters up, they just used a cherry picker.

[–] halcyoncmdr@piefed.social 3 points 12 hours ago

I'm sure the cherry picker skipped all the required safety stuff to get it up ASAP so they couldn't stop it before it was done. Harder to go through the courts after the fact.

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 8 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Tarp is still up, too, but there is some footage of the letters seen being taken off through the gap near the wall. I imagine the tarp will stay up until the holes are patched, if they will be.

[–] Zier@fedia.io 0 points 20 hours ago

No holes. It was glued on.

[–] erusuoyera@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

America covering up the removal of Trump's name? Never, surely.

[–] OhStopYellingAtMe@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

America ordered them to take it down. America gathered outside to watch it happen and cheering for it.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 3 points 22 hours ago

Well, not America so much as conservatives/Republicans doing this.

[–] Sludgehammer@lemmy.world 9 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Finally... that atrocity of font matching is gone.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 10 points 22 hours ago

Every time I would see that skidmark's name on there, I'd think of this:

I mean, DonOLD's stupid monkeys all seem like they come straight out of Idiocracy.

[–] mkwt@lemmy.world 4 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

New York Times reported that no sounds of power tools were heard, and it appeared that the lettering was simply removed by hand.

[–] Zier@fedia.io 6 points 20 hours ago

Reports were, the letters were glued on. In the livestream it took 20 minutes to remove him. Unlikely any damage to the wall.

[–] rossman@lemmy.zip 2 points 21 hours ago

site is fixed too thank goodness. https://theweek.com/politics/list-everything-trump-named-himself everything here is next.
