Reddit is no longer fun indeed
News and Discussions about Reddit
Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.
The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:
Rules
Rule 1- No brigading.
**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **
YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.
Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.
**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **
Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.
Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.
Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.
That's it.
Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.
Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.
Rule 6- Regarding META posts.
Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.
Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.
If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.
Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.
Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.
Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.
Let everyone have their own content.
Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.
You don't like sucking the corporate cock?
You can't even see the cock anymore since they banned porn from /all
You know it's bad when you come for the cock and you STILL get fucked.
If you have a legacy account you will still see porn.
Yeah, it stopped being fun not long before the 3P app fiasco.
Or maybe it was long before.
Didn't know that was possible. I might have wanted to use that feature 3 years ago, but on the other hand, I didn't look for that feature 3 years ago. I was fed up with Reddit and still am. It was fun whil it lasted, but those days are gone now. I've gone back a few times, but its all bots and ads now. Some local and small communuties might still contain humans, but those are getting poisoned by right wingers.
The live pages during sports events are fun, but the rest seems to be pretty dire
I left after Apollo went down, I loved that app. I’ve only gone back to browse if Reddit comes up in a search engine for something I’m looking for. Even then, l try to find other sources of info. I absolutely do not log in though, if I have to login to see whatever info, then it’s not really important.
From the niches I hang out in I'd argue that the "keep politics out of my XYZ" mofos are losing pretty hard right now. Granted given how niches work we almost certainly do not visit the same fandom areas. It was absolutely glorious seeing the entire Silksong subreddit at war with Asmongold for 2-3 weeks.
News to me. I assumed RIF quit working exactly (insert Lemmy account age) ago.
You could make a burner reddit account, sign up for a developer key, fork the source from RIF, feed it the developer key and keep making free queries to the API with your dev key. Essentially in the final update for RIF the developer made the application just hoover up old.reddit.com and pass it into the reader.
With your Dev key bypassing the cost to browse old.reddit.com the application worked near flawlessly for about 3 years. As someone who setup this zombie app under "my own development and testing" I can confirm it is now dead.
Fun last things the RIF dev gave us before it went out was methods to near completely block data collection about us, I always got the most generic reddit page ever. No algorithm, just essentially /r/all unfiltered it was great.
RIP, guess I'm here more than before now.
2 years 10 months. It's public & federated.
I literally moved over here because RIF stopped working altogether for me the day Reddit disabled the API shit. I mean, I guess the app itself "worked" but it would just remaon blank and throw up errors trying to load any actual content.
Some survived. Rarely, but I lurked using Now for Reddit during these years. Now I guess it's browser Reddit until they block it like ~~X~~ Twitter.
I've been using redreader since the crackdown. It's one of two approved 3rd party clients since reddit themselves are too lazy to make their own app accessible, which is the reason why they keep redreader working for free.
I paid for Infinity to use the API. But I got permabanned for quoting song lyrics and stupid mods not understanding context so I made the move to Lemmy and it's generally better anyway. So cancelled my subscription to Infinity last week.
There's actually a new loophole where an app called morphe with an extension called patcheddit uses Redreader's (or infinity's, but the dev has to pay for that one so don't use it) api key to get third party clients working. If you want to keep using RIF, see this https://github.com/wchill/patcheddit, I tried it with Sync as a fun test and it worked well. As a bonus, you're less likely to have your account banned as I had mine banned last year for what I presume was using my personal api key to patch Sync, and you also don't need to use the Redreader app directly like many comments are suggesting. I presume what happened and why it stopped working for you is because Reddit revoked api keys for everyone except those who had api keys for bots and things like that. Hope this helps :)
Probably because of this: https://www.reddit.com/r/modnews/comments/1tq9vxo/protecting_communities_from_scrapers_and_platform/
It semi-broke RDX and the dev is trying to find a workaround. You can still use it but the subreddit autocomplete search stopped working and you have to manually type in a sub’s name to go to it.
I thought they stopped all this like 2 or 3 years ago. Surprised any 3rd party apps were still working or being used.
They do, you just have to buy clicks to use it. There's packages, it's nuts.
been using Stealth to browse stealthily, and since a few days ago, it also no workie. changed source to Rddt (web scraping) and it got good again
Stealth is pretty great for lurkers. Could use a little more polish for image subs (porn browsing), but its good enough.
Agreed, if lurking is all you need r*ddit for (like me ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡° ) )
I've used Boost for years and it quit working around that same time, decided to come check out the lems lol
RedReader still works.
My api keys still seem to exist on the page but yeah they stopped working this morning, I was using a patched Infinity, Simply backed up the settings switched to Continuum and loaded my settings. Working exactly how I had it yesterday.
It's using the redreader workaround which I assume all the patchers like revanced/morphe will start using.
Edit; Not that there's much difference but I got the genuine infinity+ working again using morphe and patcheddit Seems to cover most third party clients.
fatbird might still work.
Mine still works on a banned account for browsing, but it is down occasionally.
RiF is still working.
You have to repatch it with Revanced. It's now piggy backing off the Red Reader API so you don't need your own anymore.
