Create a problem. Sell the solution.

Am I the only person who assumed “esteemed” was sarcastic?

[–] Blackfeathr@lemmy.world 11 points 3 weeks ago

No, I figured this was sarcasm too lol

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 3 weeks ago

Nope. I considered putting it in quotes rather than keeping the original title when crossposting, but thought it was obvious enough without them.

Guess I overestimated people 😮‍💨

[–] Iusedtobeanalien@lemmy.world 22 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It's not esteemed it's a shitrag tabloid

Yeah. I considered changing it but thought the sarcasm was obvious enough. Guess not 🤷🏻

[–] pdxfed@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

Morgan Freeman: "It was obvious enough."

[–] Iusedtobeanalien@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

Fair enough

Wasn't sure

Had to be clear

Isn't it owned by the moonies oh no that's the Washington Times it's a Murdoch owned rag

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 21 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Esteemed? I've used toilet paper more esteemed than that trash

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 3 weeks ago

Dammit, I SHOULD have added quotation marks rather than count on people detecting the sarcasm dripping off of it! 🤦🏻

I've never seen the New York Post described as "esteemed" before.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 3 weeks ago

Only sarcastically so, as in this case.

Nobody sane thinks that of the NY Compost

By the end of the year you will have someone cheering/complaining because over 500 people did/didn't die in a natural disaster...

Can anyone explain to me how “prediction” markets aren’t just straight up gambling? Did some “it’s legal to gamble outside Nevada, Indian Reservations and Atlantic City” bill pass that I didn’t hear about?

[–] VinegarChunks@lemmus.org 7 points 3 weeks ago

It seems to be a long term trend that gambling has spread much further, but I think this supreme court case was a point where it became essentially up to each state now to allow gambling or not.

[–] Korhaka@sopuli.xyz 7 points 3 weeks ago

Oh this is far more corrupt than normal gambling

They are. Except not really, since there's so much insider "betting" that the majority of money "won" is by people who knew the result in advance.

[–] november@piefed.blahaj.zone 3 points 3 weeks ago

Gambling's legal in a lot more places now.

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

I can’t wait to wag the dog by placing a bunch of bets

[–] Not_mikey@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 weeks ago

No, you see this is a good thing because now you can bet that your house will be destroyed by climate disasters so when your house gets destroyed by a climate disaster you can make some money to rebuild your house /s

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 2 points 3 weeks ago

That's so fucking pathetic.
