Can anyone explain to me how “prediction” markets aren’t just straight up gambling? Did some “it’s legal to gamble outside Nevada, Indian Reservations and Atlantic City” bill pass that I didn’t hear about?

It seems to be a long term trend that gambling has spread much further, but I think this supreme court case was a point where it became essentially up to each state now to allow gambling or not.

They are. Except not really, since there's so much insider "betting" that the majority of money "won" is by people who knew the result in advance.
