A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

Oh, it's so much worse than you think:

I posted about the full horror a while back:

The key opener:

First, I’d created 2000 free-text responses and labelled them ‘UK’. Then I copied and pasted the exact same 2000 responses but labelled these ‘US’. Finally, I combined them to create a dataset of 4000 total responses, and jumbled them up. Despite the responses being identical for the UK and US, Copilot produced a rich, detailed summary of how US and UK respondents differed.

LLMs amplify "conventional wisdom" to ludicrous levels. On almost any topic.

LLMs are highly complex imitation machines. They're designed to seem as close to the humans they were modeled on as technically possible. And they do a great job at that! It's a highly fascinating technology, all in all.

But it's not intelligence. There is no reasoning to the stochastics. No semantics to the tokens. No causation to the correlation.

And I hate that people conflate these things.

Thinking out loud.

In middle school some jock shoved me and ripped off my patch on my jacket and the school suspended us both. Zero Tolerance. OK Later in High School he dies in a drinky drive.. Great parents.

I took the ACT and bombed it I took a class where they told me to not read the reading section and pick up on keywords only. I took the test again and killed it. I wanted to work at a library because I am a nerd so I applied online. Sent my resume in like a thousand times to each branch. Someone…. shouldn't of gave me a email to a person in HR and I pestered the fuck out that person. Finally got a meaningful interview and got the job. Only to learn after working there, that they use keywords in your resume and your responses via a fucking computer to place the correct responses at the top of the stack. My high school “advanced” english teacher told me to be a walking talking thesaurus. Never just say something. Use your words. Set yourself apart. Whose is wrong?

They want you to beg. They want it to be a labyrinth They want people to fight each other like dogs.

There are background processes everywhere even before chatgipity. I strongly dislike marketing. I despise the tech bro.

This is all a play by the deep state. We are all lost people in the chains of wage slavery. Debts to pay and no leadership. Man made by design crisis.

If I see racist shit I call it out on the spot.

...and then top off that in a heritage foundation christo_fash environment with chatgipity porn bots making nazi tots. Fuck I hate this place. 4 decades of pointless life to witness. You won’t reach your destination. Or if you do you will be like whats next. People believe the hype. Dig their own graves. Like I am damned but you are too. Too ambitious some just need to love themselves. Not in a shallow way. Enrichment. We chase after stupid shit without thinking. Now here we are with nothing at the mercy of the kid with the magnifying glass in the hot sun. The people the real people disagree and out number those chatgipiting us. I say we are off to see the wizard.

[–] ZDL@lazysoci.al 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Just in case, I should make it clear I didn't write that. I found it online.

[–] derpgon@programming.dev 4 points 4 days ago

Incredible find, then!

Sooooo, a machine trained on a rascist dataset outputs rascism, go figure.

[–] Miller@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago

A lot of these AI shock articles are along the lines of that thing I trained to act like me keeps acting like me.

I wonder why they reject Asians, I thought asians were archetypaly considered as better/smarter/more disciplined workers, when generalized stereotypes are considered?

But maybe that's just archetype for school? To be honest I'm not really up to speed on what the current meta in racism is.

Okay I don’t like to group people at all but you asked so I’ll explain what I think it is, having worked with colleagues from many different Asian countries. Asian-Americans are raised by parents with a strong work ethic imposed, as you said. But Asian immigrants sometimes have trouble with English.

I took an exam for a state position once and more than half of it was very basic and language focused. The exam basically screened out non-native English speakers, checking for common mistakes like lack of pluralization, or incorrect verb conjugation. So, this has been going on before AI screening.

I wonder why they reject Asians

The general view of Asians population-wide is negative¹, so that's going to be in any output, no matter what the context.

¹ Don't believe me? Ask anybody Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, etc. in 2020-2023, say. Or anybody Sikh post-9/11. Or ...

[–] Mikina@programming.dev 2 points 3 days ago

I have no reason to doubt that, it's a stereotype I haven't heard, but tbh I'm actively avoiding people who would have that view.

It's mostly based on memes, where as far as I know, Asians are usually considered the smart archetype, but I understand that's not really a reliable source of widespread view about a race.

[–] eestileib@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 4 days ago

Yes, that's what they're there for...

Omg, they emulate real managers so well

[–] solrize@lemmy.ml 4 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

There's a book about this from even before ChatGPT, "Weapons of Math Destruction" by Cathy O'Neil. It's good.

and anybody with a brain.... look at the shit they slinging. We are stagnating in a boring bland shit stew. I don't do anything I just stay home and read

[–] lemmyng@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

My days have been spent playing video games, archiving my late parents' documents, watching movies and shows, and doomscrolling.

All because today's job market literally hates me and other people like me.
