Idk what here counts as indie and what doesn't, especially cause most of us are kinda forced outside the mainstream if we're openly trans. But Imma just starting listing people and groups that come to mind in no particular order:

  • Femtanyl
  • Cynthoni/Sewerslvt
  • Anohni
  • Ethel Cain
  • Shteppi/Issbrokie
  • Changeline
  • Damag3
  • Switch Angel
  • Fem&m
  • Against Me!
  • SOPHIE
  • Sopor Aeternus & The Ensemble Of Shadows
  • ZombAe
  • Ada Rook

If anybody has suggestions please reply, I'll add them

Sopor Aeternus & The Ensemble Of Shadows

After the first couple years of the new millenium I don't really enjoy her stuff too much, but her work in the 90s is great. Todeswunsch is probably my favorite album. Anna Varney was probably the first openly trans person on my radar enough to know her name. I still have her art/photography book somewhere, it was limited to like fifty copies, I got it in 2005.

Oooo dark wave, I think I'll enjoy this. Thank you!

The unexpected sequel to 'trick or treat'

[–] Trying2KnowMyself@hexbear.net 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Hmm, I think we’d need to swap it around to “lib or link” for it to match up.

[–] sleeplessone@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Nah, it's fine the way it was. We all know haw much libs love their treats.

[–] Trying2KnowMyself@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago

I feel like either I’ve been tricked (op is a lib) or I’m getting a treat (op gives link).

Or, if I get a link and it’s a trick, maybe I was the lib all along?

I was listening in the car with my partner so I don't remember the exact song or artist that made me post this. (Username was a like 5 number and letters that didn't mean anything to me)

Check out femtanyl tho

[–] PKMKII@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago (2 children)

That’s because breakcore, hyperpop, and digital hardcore are the best indie genres

[–] BountifulEggnog@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago (4 children)

What good trans artists are there in these genres? Love breakcore and would probably like the others.

I know sewerslvt but no one else

[–] PKMKII@hexbear.net 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

DeltaFey, Sophie, FEM&M, some of Lauren Bousfield’s work goes into that territory.

[–] TreadOnMe@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago

Sophie is literally a seminal artist in hyperpop. You cannot listen to a single song without hearing her influence.

[–] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 month ago

Pretty sure femtanyl is trans

[–] danisth@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago

Laura Les (100 gecs) and underscores are both worth a listen. Mostly in the hyperpop space though they both move around a bit genre wise (like most hyperpop).

[–] SwitchyandWitchy@hexbear.net 4 points 1 month ago

Not breakcore but I love Femtanyl and she scratches the same or at least similar itch for me. I'd also love to know more though, Cynthoni (formerly known as Sewerslvt) has helped me through a lot of hopeless nights and heavy emotions.

[–] SwitchyandWitchy@hexbear.net 3 points 1 month ago

It's not even just those though. Ethel Cain is the first example that came to mind.

cis person here so i may be incorrect but i would surmise it's because E's a helluva drug

  • Hkmori
  • Goreshit
  • Purity filter
  • Rory in early 20s
  • Exodia
  • Machine girl
  • Tanger
  • Puhf
  • Golden boy

[–] Nopeace@hexbear.net 1 points 1 month ago

Within the extremely narrow context of Punk and Soundcloud songs with FL studio default instruments mixed with V-tuber vocals, yes.
