Police be like:

Once you pop the fun don't stop!

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

I haven't heard this joke since Columbine.

[–] Hoodoir@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago

I’m not new to the internet yet even after all these years it feels weird to upload something that should be infuriating

You mean to tell me police violence exists in other places besides the US? /s

That first A in ACAB isn’t just for looks.

[–] EndlessNightmare@reddthat.com 1 points 2 hours ago

You're telling me that"A" doesn't stand for "American"?

I seriously thought it meant Jamaica, NY based on the headline.

[–] anon_8675309@lemmy.world 7 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

I always picture Jamaica as being more laid back than this.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 4 points 5 hours ago

Most of the people, maybe. But their government and police forces are brutal and oppressive.

[–] beejboytyson@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Really? I picture it as a lawless hellscape but I guess it depends where you grew up.

[–] EndlessNightmare@reddthat.com 2 points 2 hours ago

A laid back lawless hellscape perhaps?

Jamaica is functionally a captive state. The police and the legislature are fully captured by foreign corporate interests. The public is held in poverty to extract their labor on the cheap.

Emigration from Jamaica is currently at a critical high, with over half of the population (54%) planning an attempt to leave within the next three years.

The whole Caribbean is under the yoke of repressive governments operating perpetually contracting local economies to support the tourist sector. But as a British Commonwealth (functionally little more than a colony) they don't even enjoy a relationship to a prosperous mainland to backstop their atrocious domestic economic policy.

What an utter tragedy. Full solidarity to Jamaicans trying to make their part of our shared world better.

Waiting for another shooting at the protest for this shooting.

[–] magnetosphere@fedia.io 3 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

At least now, the issue will get more attention than it would have otherwise. Plus, she is now a contestant for most ironic death of the year.

[–] FarraigePlaisteach@lemmy.world 13 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

There is no "bright" side to this. No "at least". And this is a story about a real human being, not an entertainment piece to draw irony from.

[–] magnetosphere@fedia.io 4 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

Police should behave responsibly. The protest shouldn’t have had to happen in the first place. We can all agree on that.

The world is so fucked up that I HAVE to look for the “at least” and “bright” things, otherwise I’ll go insane. Some of us joke about serious things. Some of us rely on other methods. Either way, facing the enormity of the horrors surrounding us without any kind of coping mechanism is just too much.

[–] podian@piefed.social 1 points 2 hours ago

On a relatively brighter pixel, I agree with you on this at least.

[–] FarraigePlaisteach@lemmy.world 7 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

By all means step away and take good care of yourself when it gets too intense. It's necessary at times. But comments like that just don't belong here. We can't ask victims to help us derail their stories so we can process our difficulties reading them. Let's keep this about them and not make it about ourselves.
