For a moment, I was trying to overcomplicate this and didn't get it. Then it clicked.

[–] celemin@sh.itjust.works 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

A lightbulb moment, if you will

[–] pruwybn@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 1 day ago

It threw me off, but I caught on.

[–] Pacattack57@lemmy.world 0 points 1 day ago

Then it switched or you could say the light bulb went off in your head.

People who go "wow it's dark in here", turn all the lights on, then leave, who were never really affected by the situation, should all burn in hell.

[–] Whats_your_reasoning@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Precisely. If it's dark, it's dark for a reason. At the very least, ask whoever's in the room if you can put the light on. When I'm dealing with a light-induced headache, putting on the light is a form of torture.

[–] FosterMolasses@leminal.space 1 points 1 day ago

Lollllll me_irl

I'm sure these are the same people that browse everything in light mode

[–] 2piradians@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Antimeme or do I just not know something?

[–] neo2478@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 day ago

If your lights are on, then you know.

[–] FosterMolasses@leminal.space 1 points 1 day ago

More of a BoneHurtingJuice but basically same principle

[–] rockSlayer@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I swear that I'm the only person in my office that knows where the break room light switch is. I've seen it full of people with the light off

[–] gazter@aussie.zone 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Maybe they like it like that.

[–] Mac@mander.xyz 1 points 1 day ago

Can you imagine?

All the homies chillin and having a good time in the break room. Then mr. Big Light comes in and flashbangs everyone, ruining the vibe. lmao

[–] Retro_unlimited@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

If you want to turn on the light, you first have to reach over and turn on the light switch…

Just put your hand on its flippy thing and turn it on. You know it’s turned on with its point upwards. (Usually)

[–] botbot@feddit.org 2 points 1 day ago

Sometimes the dark is more comfortable

[–] scytale@piefed.zip 2 points 1 day ago

Also me when I have a brain fart and flick the switch thinking I’m turning it on when it’s already on, so I turn it off instead.

[–] pigup@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

OMG so real!

European style switches are off with the top half pressed in and on when the bottom half is pressed in (multiway switches excluded). This is a hill I'm willing to die on and I will be looking down on installers doing it otherwise.

Edit: By "European style" I mean this design: Picture

For this design "lever up" = on: Picture

[–] FosterMolasses@leminal.space 2 points 1 day ago

I've always been in houses where there are multiple switches in different rooms existing for the same light for convenience, so I judge the on/off state of a switch by whether or not it's currently dark somewhere lol

This happens in rooms that have 2 panels, and when it does skill cross a room 2x to get them back to up=on.

We turn things UP to increase and DOWN to decrease. I'm not going to die on this hill but I will do everything I can behind the scenes to erode and undermine the hill of the enemy. Up to and including using my multi tool to flip your switches upside down. For the realm.

[–] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Up should be on because they're both 2 letters, and together make the word "upon".

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

My house has them both ways because fuck your expectations lol

[–] dbx12@programming.dev 0 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Aaaargh. Im not diagnosed but it might say something about me that I would rewire them to get them oriented right.

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 1 points 14 hours ago

There are also 2 rooms where double switches have been installed but there's only one light actually being switched. The other switch isn't connected to anything.

I didn't do any of this myself, but I'm also part of the problem because I'm too lazy to fix it.

Oh and some of the faucets are hot on the left, cold on the right. Some are the hot on the right, cold on the left.

Not a single professional contractor has been consulted for any of it though. All built by my family.

Aaaargh. Im not diagnosed but it might say something about me that I would rewire them to get them oriented right.

Maybe. But I think normal people can have OCD-like tendencies too. IIRC to get diagnosed, it has to be bad enough to be affecting your life in a negative manner. Otherwise we'd all be diagnosed with a bunch of things. I can tell you that some things annoy me too when they're out of order, to the point I might spend a bit too much time fixing things, but I almost certainly don't have OCD. I DO have ADHD because both my hyperfocus and the lack of focus at other times are at very extreme levels.
