Rules:

  1. The mods are fallible; if you've been banned or had a post/comment removed, please appeal.
  2. Off-topic posts will be removed. If you don't know what "Leopards ate my Face" is, try reading this post.
  3. If the reason your post meets Rule 1 isn't in the source, you must add a source in the post body (not the comments) to explain this. If the reason is in the source but is tedious to find (e.g. in a lengthy video), you must add an explanation for where it is.
  4. Posts should use high-quality sources (for a rough idea, check out this list), and posts should retain the title (if one exists) from works like news articles, videos, etc. You may (but need not) edit your post if the source changes the title. Other types of posts should have a title which accurately, relatively neutrally describes their contents.
  5. For accessibility reasons, an image of text must either have alt text or a transcription in the post body.
  6. Reposts within 1 year or the Top 100 of all time are subject to removal. Within moderator discretion, this doesn't just include reposts of the exact same media but also includes e.g. a secondary source telling basically the exact same story as another that was already posted.
  7. This is not exclusively a US politics community. You're encouraged to post stories about anyone from any place in the world at any point in history as long as you meet the other rules.

If you're angry with the left and vote right, you ain't left to begin with.

[–] sheogorath@lemmy.world 22 points 3 days ago (6 children)

I’m tired of Americans calling left of far right to be left. Left of far right is still right you know.

[–] Telodzrum@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago

It’s relative. This is how it works. It’s also how the SPD in Germany is “left” and how Labour, from any country with a party so named, is “left.”

Comments Iike yours have never served any purpose other than to make the speak feel self superior. They actually serve as a detriment to further discourse on the topic.

We know. Everyone knows. It's just how we refer to the Democratic Party here. At this point, I think the only people who don't know the difference are the ones wouldn't care to make the distinction in the first place. Getting upset over it makes about as much sense as getting upset at British people for calling a sweater a jumper.

Yeah but it's silly to call democrats the right-left-wing and republicans right-right-wing and maga right-right-right-wing

We could use: MAGA Fascists Republicans Centrist Dems

That Overton window yo

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Use “liberal” and see how that goes.

[–] Mantzy81@aussie.zone 2 points 3 days ago

You'd be talking about the right wing party in my case (Australia - the Liberals are the conservative choice)

[–] Soulg@ani.social 1 points 3 days ago

Literally doesn't matter when we have 2 parties and one of them is to the left of the other

[–] yesman@lemmy.world 25 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Nobody ever went right because they were "betrayed" by the left. That's like going gay because of a bad breakup. Most people who legitimately feel betrayed by the left go further left.

What the right does cultivate is false grievance against the left. And this "walkaway" narrative is fake news.

[–] Ooops@feddit.org 1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

That sadly only works for the limited number of people with a working brain.

The amount of idiots that vote far-right to get the left policies the left never in power did thus not deliver is insane. Those people will also scream in your face about fake news or even get aggressive if you read straight from their populist party's programs, because the brain rot they consume says otherwise.

The crucial thing to remember about leopards is that when they decide to eat your face, it's not a betrayal. It's a leopard, it doesn't grasp the concept of betrayal. You have a face, and it eats faces. It is simply that time of day, and you picked a bad place to be.

I will never vote right but some of the leftists I've met irl are the most insufferable cunts you can imagine. Definate difference in people who don't like the status quo and the other who want to impose their "perfect economy system" on everyone with no regard of how that would actually work or look. Like lefty magas

I know that my ideal system I'd want to see will not happen in my life. I wish to plant the trees so others may enjoy their shade.

I think that's Cheems

Betrayed by the Left

If you used a rightwing compass to define your politics, you probably weren't “left” to begin with.

You're probably confusing a liberal.

Is this meme really trying to say empathy is a bad thing?

[–] Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz -2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (4 children)

The right revolt all the time, maga, the libertarian movement, and the tea party all sent the politicians falling over eachother to try to be what they thought the base wanted.

Republicans fear their voters, democrats despise their voters.

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Republicans fear their voters

Not anymore. After the tea party shenanigans, Republicans realized it was easier to use mass media to program people on what to hate, and keep them distracted.

[–] Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz 2 points 3 days ago

A bunch of republicans lost primaries and generals because the party let insurgents meaningfully challenge them and didn't burn down the house the way the dems react to DSA obtaining power.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Which is ironic since the TEA party was a Faux News creation.

[–] MasterBlaster@lemmy.world 1 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

... In coalition with the Koch brothers, who were the primary financial backers of the movement.

[–] AskMeForADickPic@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Lol republicans fear their own terrorist, fascist actions.

[–] Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz 3 points 3 days ago

Probably. But I attribute it to there being less ideological dissonance between the republicans donors and voters and democrats donors and voters.

Republicans can tell their base they're going to hurt everybody to make the rich richer and they'll accept it if they blame oppressed people and foreigners. Democrats have to lie to their base and come up with excuses for why they are hurting everyone to make the rich richer.

[–] Hawanja@lemmy.world 0 points 2 days ago

It's more like the actual leftists don't really vote, so the democrats don't cater to them. The corporate wing of the party actively tries to push them out.
If the leftists got organized and started voting out dems in the primary these people would change their tune.
