Mildly Interesting

This is for strictly mildly interesting material. If it's too interesting, it doesn't belong. If it's not interesting, it doesn't belong.

This is obviously an objective criteria, so the mods are always right. Or maybe mildly right? Ahh.. what do we know?

Just post some stuff and don't spam.

Guess the US flight had to wait until all the dangerous fishermen were taken out.

Planes also have headlights. I only realized that pretty recently when I saw one flying low above me on a cloudy night, with the light projecting out in front. We always see them as points of light in the sky so I assumed their lights were just so they could be seen from the ground.

Obviously fake. Flag should blow in the opposite direction when the plane flies forward. Though, maybe the image is mirrored.

[–] stupidcasey@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago

He's clearly flying in reverse.

Or perhaps the plane is stopped on the runway

That’s probably handy if their turn signals quit working. At least they can still signal the old fashioned way!

[–] ThePowerOfGeek@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yup. They've got a solid way around running low on blinker fluid.

Have you priced that shit lately! Sonsabitches act like they ain’t making it no mo.

[–] P1k1e@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

Well with the worldwide economy in the tank maybe they ain't. see if you can still get headlight fluid you might be able to iodize it overnight with a left handed screwdriver. Might work as a solid alternative

Not exactly roll down. The window opens on a roll lock mechanism that slides inward and then aft.

And the latch to close it has a really satisfying kerthunk

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Gotta love a good kerthunk 😁

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Not as much as I love a breeze at 35,000 feet

[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago (1 children)

How else do they pay tolls?

[–] Onomatopoeia@lemmy.cafe 5 points 2 days ago

Damn, Airplane missed a gag!

[–] TheReturnOfPEB@reddthat.com 23 points 2 days ago (1 children)

if the doors lock to protect the pilots it is important to give them a way out in case of fire

[–] JennaR8r@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago

They're so annoyed when they go out of their way to fly to Chick-fil-A then realize it's a Sunday.

Of course, how else they gonna get their drive-thru Starbucks?

[–] thagoat@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 2 days ago

So they can step out for a cigarette

[–] billwashere@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (2 children)

It’s so the cops can see his license and registration for when he’s pulled over.

[–] MidsizedSedan@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I was hoping to insert the Airplane! gag, but I can't find the clip :(

what happened to the internet...

(ignore my spelling)

Fuel prices are really too high to turn on the A/C when flying.

Can't wait till pilots try fuelmaxxing by coasting.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 2 points 2 days ago (2 children)

opening a window will generally use way more gas than using a/c.

[–] Don_alForno@feddit.org 1 points 1 day ago

There's a speed threshold where it flips over, Mythbusters tried it.

[–] MML@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

I think opening windows on an airplane is generally frowned upon

[–] Pacrat173@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I don’t care if it was 100% safe. I could never id rather not be the opening death in the next final destination

[–] atrielienz@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'm just gonna say aircraft are often made of class D fire materials and if a fire breaks out that fire is often self sustaining. Those windows open so the pilot has an evacuation route in the event they can't leave via the door to the flight deck.

[–] Pacrat173@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Well when you put it like that I’d rather take my chance with the window

[–] atrielienz@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The idea at traveling anywhere near half the speed of mach 1 with a window that opens is terrifying on its face, I will admit.

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

It'll certainly blow your hair back
