President Donald Trump said Friday during remarks in Florida that the United States would take over Cuba “almost immediately,” suggesting an aircraft carrier could be positioned offshore after the conflict in Iran.

[...]

While the president’s comments appeared partly joking, they followed concrete policy action in the form of broadened sanctions.

If the US went in with the big stick, Cuba would fall in a week. Russia doesn’t have the heft to support Cuba at this time and a China doesn’t have the tradition and reach. Most Cubans have deep connections with the US and they know the different in quality of life. There’s be very little support from the population towards the regime. Cuba has barely any friends internationally.

That doesn’t make it right. But of all the countries to “take”, Cuba would be the simplest for the US. And Trump might just be mad enough to do it.

I honestly don't know why they went Iran instead of Cuba if they wanted to wave their big dick around.

You are vastly underestimating cuban peoples commitment to the revolution (they on avg have better QOL than an avg american). Calling it regime you are manufacturing consent for invasion but again you are western british chauvinist so this is expected.

It’ll be total control almost as fast as his total control over Iran.

What’s the clear and present danger for this one again?

He can only declare war for 60 days. Iran is up, Cuba next. Then Greenland, etc etc etc

And even thats not legal, its using made up reasons.

With Maduro and the first Iran bombings they worked because there was the element of surprise.

If the Cubans have any braincells they will be prepared.

Sure, his latest war is not going to plan. There are plenty of unknowns in Venezuela and the Cubans will not tolerate US imperialism.

How can you have any pudding if you don't eat yer meat?

Gentle reminder that cuba was first sanctioned by JFK. Liberal Bill Clinton strengthened those sanctions. For us communists (and other sane leftists) we should know theyre all the same.

I've heard this one before

I'm pretty sure invading Cuba during this Trump administration would result in the next(Democrat) administration following through with complete annexation and, I'd wager, the creation of a new US State of Cuba.

It may even result in Puerto Rico statehood and D.C. statehood simultaneously.

Because, by the time Trump is out of office, the news cycle will have moved all the way through outrage to regret to acceptance and finally to "what is the most humane thing to do now?"

Democrat liberal voters will conveniently conclude the most ethical path is to make more left-leaning states while they have the chance, because not doing so means the following elections lean rightward again and risk another Trump-like administration takes over.
