Most noteworthy for me is the fact that more Americans think that porn (52%) and homosexuality (39%) are wrong than spanking children (23%) and being ultra wealthy (18%).

Thanks for sharing, now I really want to go cry. I hate this country.

It makes me so mad how much worse alcohol is than weed and yet people think weed is morally worse, fml

[–] FinalRemix@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago

Propaganda's a helluva drug.

Imprisoning, torturing, and killing animals = A-OK

2 consenting adults of the same gender having sex = whoa, too far!

[–] vivalapivo@lemmy.today 1 points 7 hours ago (3 children)

More furious about how and why 2 consenting adults when one is married having sex has 90% disapproval rating.

Not advocating for anything, but if everybody does it, it becomes futile

[–] pyre@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

funny how you completely forgot the third person in the equation.

wtf do you mean if everybody does it.... why would everybody cheat their spouses

[–] Kcs8v6@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

I don't think the act of sex is the immoral part people are responding to, it's the infidelity to that other spouse that's the issue. Assuming they dont have some agreement on extra marital affairs.

Some people still would probably call that wrong, but I only think so if it goes outside the vows you made when you got married or are otherwise being dishonest when going about it.

I assume it’s such a clear cut case due to the betrayal of the promise of monogamy. And you can’t use the β€œit’s so common it’s futile” argument in a rebuttal to the morality of meat consumption!

Its completely absur that assisted suicide (35%) is almost the same as the death penalty (34%)

Doesn't it make perfect sense actually?

[–] EndlessNightmare@reddthat.com 2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

If you support the death penalty, it would be really fucking weird to turn around and oppose assisted suicide.

The Venn diagram of "accepts assisted suicide" should be a circle around "accepts death penalty."

[–] NotEasyBeingGreen@slrpnk.net 3 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

implicit in these questions is that the death penalty is being applied to very bad people who totally deserve to die and burn in hell, and that suicide is when good people reject God's gift of life. So they are not the same for religious people at least. πŸ˜‰

Since I consider religion to be "really fucking weird," I guess that follows with my original comment.

Some of these percentages are really depressing.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 4 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

This, on top of many others, shows how mind-bent in a bad way Americans are.

No wonder they have a shithead for "President".

Yes, as an american i can tell you trump is the president we deserve for being shitheads. George Carlin said it decades ago, politicians dont fall from the sky, they're american kids who were raised by american parents and went to American schools and worked american jobs, and were elected by other American people. Garbage in, garbage out, we all have to look inward and figure out how to fo better because trump really is the symptom of the greater disease.

From what I understand watching pornography is a more complex issue, and it depends on a number of factors.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 5 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

this the culture war bs conservatives are indoctrinated to be concerned with. notice how none of them even mentioning tax, public services, insurance , billionaires.

[–] NotEasyBeingGreen@slrpnk.net 1 points 7 hours ago

I'm sure the responses to "Is taxation theft?" would not improve the picture. πŸ˜‰

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 11 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

Wow people don’t realize how morally wrong it is to have billionaires. I guess we’re surrounded by morons

[–] PhoenixDog@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

Been outside lately?

Ya that was really disappointing number to look at.

My family's from the South. I have seen some shit you wouldn't believe.

But 4-in-10 finding homosexuality "morally wrong" is jaw dropping, to me. Another 23%, just "acceptable." In 2026?

WTF.

I thought homophobes were dying out, but apparently not.

As a dane, this explains a lot with all the weird stuff you hear about the US these days.

[–] Doc_Crankenstein@slrpnk.net 3 points 11 hours ago (4 children)

US society is fundamentally broken and has been for a long time.
