Most noteworthy for me is the fact that more Americans think that porn (52%) and homosexuality (39%) are wrong than spanking children (23%) and being ultra wealthy (18%).

Imprisoning, torturing, and killing animals = A-OK

2 consenting adults of the same gender having sex = whoa, too far!

More furious about how and why 2 consenting adults when one is married having sex has 90% disapproval rating.

Not advocating for anything, but if everybody does it, it becomes futile

funny how you completely forgot the third person in the equation.

wtf do you mean if everybody does it.... why would everybody cheat their spouses

[–] Kcs8v6@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

I don't think the act of sex is the immoral part people are responding to, it's the infidelity to that other spouse that's the issue. Assuming they dont have some agreement on extra marital affairs.

Some people still would probably call that wrong, but I only think so if it goes outside the vows you made when you got married or are otherwise being dishonest when going about it.

I assume it’s such a clear cut case due to the betrayal of the promise of monogamy. And you can’t use the “it’s so common it’s futile” argument in a rebuttal to the morality of meat consumption!

Cheating is shitty. I'm glad to see that most people agree with this, even if the % of cheaters is likely considerably higher than 9%

The question was whether eating meat is morally wrong. That can be done without imprisoning and torturing animals. Those issues are intermingled and correlated, but not the same thing. The framing of the question has a big impact on the answer.

That can be done without imprisoning and torturing animals.

Ironically, more people seem to be opposed to hunting than buying (factory farmed) meat from the grocery store. Fishing doesn't seem to get the same negative reaction as hunting though.

I hadn't thought about that but I think you are right! It seems much more humane, though, as long as the sportsman also uses the animal.
