Feddit.org has been promoting a fake, libelous edited screenshot as proof of dbzer0 being a Nazi instance.

This has now been proven FAKE with a working WayBack Machine link.

Compare the users, the @'s, the emojis. There are a few differences as this was taken later, but this is the original post that was modified to show dbzer0 and quokk.au as being targetted by Nazis.

Here is where Feddit.org has been promoting this lie, with the full backing of the admins.

I have recently been banned from Feddit.org due to their admins lying and dismissing of my questioning the legitimacy of this post. See YPTB post here

The responsibility for these lies and the accusations of calling people nazis falls squarely on @Emopunker@feddit.org shoulders.

On those posts about people complaining (mostly in c/unpopularopinion) that lemmy isn’t all that different from reddit, instance infighting is one truly unique thing from the fediverse.

On the bright side, none of the instance owners have the kind of monopolistic power Reddit has.

Plus, unlike the average Redditor, the average Lemming has already switched platforms at least once and is a lot more ready to switch again.

[–] Grimy@lemmy.world 24 points 2 months ago (9 children)

Ya, the tribalism is much more intense, probably because we all have the @instance next to our name. I cringe so hard when I see people say shit like "typical .ml user" and the like. Most people just join an instance randomly, it's not like there's a political pledge they make you sign when you do or something.

I do think this current situation is kind of fucked up tho. Calling an admin a Nazi with doctored photos.

[–] Speculater@lemmy.world 24 points 2 months ago (10 children)

I only joined .world because it was listed on Reddit Is Fun as the app closed. Now people randomly ban me or insult me for being mainstream. Bruh...

Yup. My first instance was .world because fuck it, good enough, at least it's not Reddit. (Didn't know about all the drama until at least a year later, too. I still probably don't know about a lot of it.) Now I'm two-timing that one and piefed.social until I carve out the time to set up my own instance or few, maybe even one with a deluxe-tier membership with extra features.

I'm locking this post as i can't investigate for now. The link to the wayback machine is broken on my side.

Sorry, I need a longer time to read, understand and verify. I'm busy. I'm letting @libb@piefed.social and @null@piefed.nullspace.lol handling it.

Thank for your understanding.

[–] null@piefed.social 44 points 2 months ago (3 children)

Followed the links and looks like this post is legitimate and the image was doctored.

Unlocking for now, but I would love to see all this fedi-drama live in it's own community...

[–] grue@lemmy.world 39 points 2 months ago

Disputes between users are "drama," disputes involving instance admins and discussions of defederation are matters of fediverse governance.

[–] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 31 points 2 months ago (6 children)

I'm tempted to host a single instance, with no accounts and a single community called "instance beefing"

[–] grue@lemmy.world 24 points 2 months ago

Put it on a .ch (Switzerland) domain, LOL

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 2 months ago

Please do a funny and call it something like 'the marketplace of ideas'.

[–] Snoopy@piefed.social 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I think it could be a good idea. :)

I would name it "instance mediation" instead of "beefing" since we aren't looking for a conflict but listening and talking. But of course that would be an utopia since we are passionnate on some topic. πŸ˜…

I imagine a safe space where users can bring their arguments with proofs without attacking each other. Just facts, nothing more...and they decide. :)

I think this is a level beyond drama. This was a deliberate misinformation/smear campaign.

[–] Snoopy@piefed.social 8 points 2 months ago

That's why i tought it was important an importants information.

But it was quite sensible, We have to verify and thread it carefuly.

Same but i can't dimiss people's opinion. I think it's important to listen to them. There is people against AI, other for AI, and each of them have a point. They are not wrong.

I believe the best way to handle it is to create a framework for debate and bringing arguments to nuance our opinions, understanding each points.

However, there is also a limit on free speech and that's our part to handle. That's not easy. πŸ˜”

[–] Quokka@quokk.au 47 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (2 children)

Pretty disgusted to see Feddit.org allowed this content to stay up for so long and try to frame the Quokk.au and Dbzer0 admin team as Nazis simply because we dared to defederate their instance for its pro-Zionist stance.

I honestly haven’t thought of them once in the year since we blocked them, apparently we are still fresh on their minds.

I feel at the very least they should make a public retraction of this post, explaining how it was misinformation and ban the user who spread it.

I'm surprised people don't see this as blatant projection. Nazis aren't smart, but they know to target where the most easy recruits are. Dbzero is full of anarchists, who are historically so antinazi we have trouble getting along with other leftists.

On the other hand, constructing a "they're the real Nazis!" narrative allows them to push Lemmy World (the biggest instance with the most "centrist" views, the best target for Nazi infiltration) into isolation. Especially isolation from people who recognize and vehemently fight the first signs of Nazis: anarchists.

Lemmy.world (and Feddit.org clearly) needs to clean their own house; they're being actively attacked from inside.

Unfortunately I fell for all the gossip around them being a neo nazi.

It's pretty sad to see something like this happen in the fediverse.

[–] TaterTot@piefed.social 29 points 2 months ago

I fall for shit like it's going out of style. HumanOS is suckware.

The fact that you can recognize a cognitive fuck up for what it is and admit it is really cool.

If more people could do that... well we wouldn't have drama like this.

[–] SapphironZA@sh.itjust.works 15 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Admitting getting fooled is a very mature thing to do and so rare in online discouse.

I got fooled for years by Israel propaganda around Gaza. Since then I get in to trouble with lots of communities for questioning the narrative of both sides.

[–] Loco_Mex@sh.itjust.works 15 points 2 months ago

At least you got to see the truth.

Many people are not going to see this post and walk away thinking it was true. The damage of a lie lasts forever.

The feddit.org admins did not help by refusing to remove the post for hours after it was proven fake and continuing to argue against and silence evidence proving it.

[–] irelephant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 2 months ago

At least you realized your mistake, and you're able to admit it.

[–] starik@lemmy.zip 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Don’t feel bad. It’s completely plausible. Anyone could have fallen for it.

[–] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 23 points 2 months ago (3 children)

We're anarchists! We couldn't be more diametrically opposed to fascism if we tried. It's the opposite of plausible! 🫠

[–] cyborganism@lemmy.ca 12 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I owe you an apology. Especially after my post in yepowertrippinbastards. I'm glad it opened a discussion on the matter and that the correct information was provided though.

I hope you can forgive me.

[–] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 2 months ago
[–] curbstickle@anarchist.nexus 11 points 2 months ago

People fell for the idea of "centralized anarchist leadership", I think plausibility is more about whether people can be convinced something is true than if the idea can even reflect reality.

Also some people think of the flotilla as "those pirate people", and don't know or have any interest in knowing more, which is a shame.

I actually had an idea for some promo type material I was calling "Ooh, so scawy!", with things like pictures of food being handed out or community cleanup efforts. At the bottom would be "They are an anarchist! Ooh, so scawy!", because so many people have no idea what anarchists stand for that I thought it might be a neat way to share ideas in a playful way.

Someone who posts rants on MeanwhileOnGrad being associated with falsifying nazi evidence? Well, I never!

Zionists tend to be well organised and paid well. It's not really a surprise to me they manufacture evidence like this since it's this kind of mud that ends up sticking in the backs of people's minds.

I'm not suggesting that emo was a paid actor. Simply that the kind of campaigns they typically do create the kind of person emo is.

[–] BoJackHorseman@lemmy.today 10 points 2 months ago

Zionists have admitted to using AI generated photos to justify killing Lebanese reporters.

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago

If you can't trust a German based instance that espouses fascist ideologies then who can you trust?

[–] WagnasT@piefed.world 13 points 2 months ago (3 children)

The only problem I have with the evidence presented is the wayback links only show how it looks now rather than the time of the incident. It would be really shitty if they doctored the image to stir up some shit and divide us even more. I think so many people found it believable because of how toxic some folks can be. Let's remain vigilant so that nazis don't feel welcome here but we absolutely should not overreact without sufficient evidence.

[–] square@lemmy.zip 13 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

The site appears to indicate edits. The first post shows edited a week ago.

I don't know how hard it would be to manipulate that at the admin level, if it's even possible, or if any of the users in the screenshot are admins. Maybe someone that knows more about whatever platform they're using can help.

Edit: You can go to nicecrew.digital, where a couple of the posters are from and without signing in, hit explore, search posts for the exact wording for Classic Tyler's first post (I'm sending Johnny an invoice), and you'll get this thread.

You only get the nicecrew replies, the rest won't load, maybe because poa.st, where the OP is from, seems fucked up right now, maybe due to all the traffic caused by this investigation, lol.

Nicecrew.digital indicates edits with an icon. None of these posts have the icon.

Unless this is a coordinated cover-up by admins of multiple instances removing indications of editing (and I don't even know if that's possible) what you can see right now on wayback, annihilation.social, and nicecrew.digital is legit. The feddit screenshot is a fabrication.

Edit#2: You can also go to detroitriotcity.com, search for alexmussolini88's (jfc, these people) post, and get the whole thing. Again, with no indication of edits outside of the OP.

[–] irelephant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Also note that the feddit.uk which originally posted this screenshot deleted itself when this was found.

[–] Loco_Mex@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 months ago (1 children)

And that account was created a few days before the .org account who reposted this.

That account was also inactive for basically 6 months with only a handful of comments when it was newly made.

[–] irelephant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 2 months ago

And all the upvoters in the LW community thread were 6 month all accounts that recently became active again, that only had a few comments in ! showerthoughs beforehand.

I think one of the lessons we can learn from this is that public admin logs should probably become a condition of federation in responsible communities.

Many lemmy.org sucketpuppet accounts to talk trash about dbzero are getting removed. How does feddit.org tolerate this?
