I tried another way of creating false color painting. But now that I look at it I think it might be creepy. Did I enter the uncanny valley?
Subtly. Like itβs just off enough (teeth/smile, eyes) but also that makes it somehow more unsettling.

No it was accidental. I didn't see it until I went to name the piece and thought "what the hell"...
well, maybe don't tell people that. call it a "happy" little accident. I do like it, it's evocative.
But I do think it's mostly just about the proportions. the smile is a bit too big, a bit too wide, and the eyes are a bit too... something else...

I think the issue is that the mouth is laughing and the eyes are not.
Only 2% of people show top and bottom teeth when they smile (complex smile). So it is unusual / can be starting to see such a big smile like that. Marylin Monroe, Julia Roberts, Kiera Knightly and Margot Robbie all have them and do not look creepy.

The palette of colours all fits except the blacks used in the mouth shadows and in the eyes and eyebrows, if this were shifted into the blue hue then it would be less noticeable. Then a bit more detail in the iris and pupils would help give that life you are seeking along with the eyebrow pose shifted ever so slightly as mentioned above, to make the eyes softer.
Itβs a great painting though, well executed on the light rendering and the palette chosen for the false colour concept.

Not the commenter, but I think they mean to generally mess with it. Go crazy with the color balance, experiment with the saturation. Make it look more "trippy"

The blacks are too black, creating out of place extra detail. Everything else is flatter contrast. Reduce that on the eyes and mouth and creepiness should reduce.
