Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

WASHINGTON, April 24 (Reuters) - The U.S. ‌Justice Department is targeting at least 300 foreign-born Americans and could revoke their ‌citizenship, NBC News reported on Friday.

This is the entirety of the article? That's it?

NYT archive:

Under federal law, the government may ask a court to strip the citizenship of people who obtained it fraudulently — for instance, by entering into a sham marriage or by withholding information about their past that would have made them ineligible.

Ok. That seems sensible.

Some who commit crimes may also be denaturalized.

No. That's bullshit. It would be very easy to come up with bullshit charges for anyone you don't want around. No naturalized citizen would be able to protest.

Ah thank you!!

i've been seeing a lot of that sort of thing, and thinking wtf where's the article--it's one fucking sentence.

AI and the defenestration of standards. i guess that's what's happening to literally everything

It would be nice for the OPs of these posts to actually read the article before linking it to the rest of us.

Changing the source since there is more detail in the original article

Getting rid of 300 citizens sure will solve that immigration crisis.

Millions. The fascist traitors want to deport 100 million people, which necessarily includes millions of citizens.

The hundreds mentioned in this article are just the start.

[–] HazardousBanjo@lemmy.world 20 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Kill, not deport.

This is how the Holocaust started. The promise to deport which, when that became impractical for reasons the fascists caused themselves, moved onto genocide.

[–] cunnililgus@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I wonder, what does happen to all the assets people own when they get deported?

[–] HazardousBanjo@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

I imagine the eventual outcome will be similar to that of assets owned by Jews who were killed in the Holocaust

Well, I guess I'm on the chopping block now. Guess it depends on where they're going to send me, because I'm doubting they'd be so nice as to ship me back to my country of origin.

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 weeks ago

I plan on pleading to self deport.

My wife's stepdad was born in Germany. His parents immigrated to the states when he was a baby (illegally). He's had to work cash under the table practically his whole life. Under Biden he managed to obtain citizenship through a dreamer program. In his first presidential election that he could vote in, he went out and voted for Trump. One reason being there's too many immigrants taking all the jobs. I don't want to wish ill will on him, but were he to get caught up in this, I wouldn't feel too bad for him.

[–] RidderSport@feddit.org 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

He's likely white, so he wouldn't be implicated at least at first.

But yes that kind of thinking is something I share as well. In Germany we have a gay man as leader of the current right government party. He's constantly blurring the red line towards the far-right and I for one will care for everyone else but him when the far-right govern and start messing with queer people.

But remember, ther were patriotic jews that voted for the NSDAP believing they would be excempt - they weren't.

Might be banking on ~~Fü~~Kanzlerin Weidel.

Melanoma and her anchor baby first. Those are the types of "undesirables" we need to get rid of.
