Fallon is the result of an experiment to create the perfect late night host. You have the most average guy possible, he will laugh at literally anything, he refuses anything controversial and won't even tough politics unless he's paid to.

The article is right, for every reason it gives: Fallon is the perfect host.

This is what happens 1,000 years before the Eric Andre show emerges.

Conan generally avoided political satire, but he let us know he had conviction.

Jimmy Fallon is like a bizarre growth which was lanced from the cancerous host of Leno—which has since metastasized and attached itself to America’s lowest common denominator.

I was never bothered by his performance on SNL—I enjoyed watching him break character during skits.

Seeing that same shtick morph into its current product and platform is unsettling.

Yeah but even him breaking on SNL got real old and tired pretty quickly. It started honest and then it seems like he starts forcing it thereby making it not actually funny anymore. But then he just kept doing the disingenuous laughter as a host which made it even hollower.

The most damning thing pointed out in the article is that Trumpstein has called for all the other late night hosts to be fired. Only Fallon is acceptable to Trump.

I'll watch clips from the late night shows, except for Fallon. Even Kimmel doing interviews featuring actors in upcoming Disney-owned studio films is more authentic and entertaining.

“Great News for America: The ratings challenged Jimmy Kimmel Show is CANCELLED. Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done. Kimmel has ZERO talent, and worse ratings than even Colbert, if that’s possible. That leaves Jimmy and Seth, two total losers, on Fake News NBC. Their ratings are also horrible. Do it NBC!!! President DJT.”

Per Variety, back when Kimmel was pulled.

Fallon is also not acceptable. I do agree it's typically Kimmel, Colbert or Meyers and much less frequently Fallon, but he has called for him to be fired/removed.

To quote the great Mike Stoklasa, "The only thing he should host is a parasite."

Fallon BROKE NEW GROUND!

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 13 points 2 weeks ago

Look it up—there are literally hundreds of videos showing him breaking out into laughter at the slightest provocation.

That's because he's drunk.

[–] KiwiTB@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago

Brilliant, worth the read.

[–] GreenShimada@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

Never been into his work. When he was so drunk he slipped and de-gloved a finger, and it was just a funny story, it was so strange.

The James Baldwin interview mentioned in the article was interesting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWwOi17WHpE

I would love a modern Cavett-style chat show. I’d want the host to get out from behind the desk though, like he did in later years. The “round table” format suited his style so much better.

The original “Politically Incorrect“ was kind of like this, before it moved to cable and Bill Maher became an insufferable twat.

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Upside, he is last in the 11:35pm in the spot. I remember decades ago, Leno was noticeably just as bad and somehow also first above Letterman (who was definitely better)--- but it's possible Leno's audience... died? Or moved on to Fox News, lol.

Also Colbert's ice cream is better.

[–] W3dd1e@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 weeks ago

CORRECT. I just tried both.

The only good late night talk show was Craig Ferguson, no one else comes close.
